What a wonderful way to spend an afternoon. Ilaria Bertin, a knowledgeable Milanese foodie, had mapped out a four-stop walking tour based on our food preferences: antipasti, entre, coffee and desert. Places where locals eat. She handled the ordering and also took us through interesting neighborhoods we would have never seen otherwise. It was quality over quantity and a great way to see Milan.
The guide was fine, but inexperienced. Food was not as advertised or expected. Very disappointed! Definitely not what I paid for!
Marco was a great tour guide. He took us to get the best cannol. Along the way he gave a history of Milano.
Hello Adam_M Glad to hear that your time in Milan with Marco was not only tasty but that you also got some history on the city. The fact that you got to eat the best cannoli is wonderful news. Kindest Liezel
Super gourmet cuisine! I recommend honey tomato and sea carbonara!!! 5 star Service and chef coming to the table!
Dear Tourist2 Thank you for the lovely review and I am very glad you enjoyed the experience in Food in Milan. Regards Liezel
We were 8 people in each group having our own food guide. We experienced our guides as passionate and knowledgeable. Wa saw and tasted everything from local best seller streetfood to more high-quality food and sweets. All the guides very very good, kind and cool. This was good.
We had the most amazing time on our Foodies Tour of Milan. Our guide Gregory was an absolute delight who took as around some amazing sites of Milan and dazzled our culinary taste buds. It was a great way to learn how to navigate our way around Milan by foot and also sample some of the amazing food delights. There were 4 of us on our foodies tour and two of the group are nearly age 70 and found the walking tour not too exhausting and very easy to manage so this really does make it a good tour for all age groups. Gregory also met us at our apartment accommodation which was fantastic to start our tour from there. Gregory was an outstanding host and his knowledge of Milan, the food culture and great places to go to was second to none. He made the tour fun and joined in with us which was awesome. Would definitely recommend this tour to anyone who wants to see the sights and sounds of Milan and experience the food culture. This was a massive highlight for our group. As a tip, definitely wear comfortable shoes as you will be walking a fair bit and a lot of the walking areas are cobblestones. This is definitely not the time for high heels ladies! Also, we started our tour late in the afternoon which is one of the best times (as our guide, Gregory pointed out) as it is before the rush of people heading out to eat later on but also gives you a great dining experience.
As first time foodie visitors to Milan we were curious to discover speciality food stores, and local restaurants of interest in the food scene. Our excellent guide Manuel contacted us beforehand by email and phone to enquire about our wishes, made a few proposals and then took us on an extended and relaxed tour of the few sights of Milan, showing us several local food places. This included a truly wonderful lunch in a small local place, and visits to other nice places for coffee and for icecream, and took us to a wonderful and very large 3-floor food store full with Italian specialities, a real discovery for us. He even took the time to show us around even beyond the scheduled tour time, and in the meantime we had nice and interesting conversations on Italy. Highly recommended and worthwhile!
We've been on several food tours in various European cities. Typically, they include an agenda that involves a reasonable sampling of local cuisine and specialties, along with some interesting historical information provided by a knowledgeable guide. This tour contained virtually none of the above. Our guide, Usama, while a lovely and engaging young man, was ill prepared to conduct such a tour. There was virtually no planning involved, and we found ourselves staring at each other blankly when he suggested that, after beginning the tour with coffee, we have gelato. I could be wrong, but ice cream is usually a dessert item. Where exactly did the food enter the picture? After some discussion, we had pizza and focaccia. All food in Italy is great, but I assumed that Milan has some specialties (how about some risotto or a Veal Milanese?) We were astonished that a food tour was not to include a visit to an actual restaurant for a sampling of local specialties. Mind boggling. I can have pizza anywhere, including in my home city of New York, where the pizza is legendary. You'd be much better off finding a good local restaurant and sampling the cuisine that way. On the plus side, we did get to see some interesting parts of the city, and we did have a pleasant day with our guide. Unfortunately, he wasn't a local, and had lived in Milan for only two years, so it seemed like his knowledge base was limited compared to other guides that we've encountered. He also revealed way too many details of his personal life, which we understood as an effort to engage in a casual and friendly manner, but seemed a bit unprofessional. I would recommend that this agency improve its training and adopt more stringent hiring criteria. This tour is labeled as a personal experience, tailored to your needs. They even have you fill out a detailed profile during booking. Apparently, they failed to provide our guide with the profile, because when he finally contacted us on the day of the tour, he asked us to tell him something about our group of 4, so that he could tailor the tour to our needs. What good is completing a detailed profile in advance if you're not going to share it with your guide? This gave the appearance of a disorganized outfit - totally unacceptable given that we paid handsomely for the privilege, and far below the standards and protocols of all other food tours that we've taken. Not recommended.
We had Gaetano as our guide, he was delightful and very accommodating. Do I think we saw more than if we had planned a trip... Absolutely not. Hence my advice is ... If you have been to a city before and have your general bearings then you get no value from this tour however if you are in need of gaining a knowledge and wish to vunderstand the nuances of the city then you will gain some benefit. I would suggest you contact your guide and be very specific about where or what you want to do or you will see a part of the city that we had no interest in. Not Gaetano fault we had a few miscommunications prior to our tour so we didn't get a chance to communicate with Gaetano Pryor to our tour. It wasn't the best tour we had been on but certainly not the worst.
Beatrice was the best tour guide! Her love and knowledge of Milan was exactly what we were looking for in this food tour. She customized it to our preferences. Beatrice also gave us so many tips on how to choose restaurants, shops , and other experiences. We even booked another tour to Lake Como the next day with her which was equally as great!
