Description

Great experience to add to your visit to Budapest!

The cave tour was a wonderful experience! It started with a 3-D short film about the caves in Budapest which was a perfect way to set the stage for the tour. Our guide, Peter, was laid back, friendly, knowledgable, and helpful. He spoke very good English. He is a cave enthusaist himself and I believe this enhanced our experience. We toured two caves, Semlő-hegyi & Pál-völgyi. The only down side is that the description of the experience doesn't mention that to get to the second cave, there is about aa 20 minute walk through the neighborhoods. It was a pretty hot day for us and we didn't expect this. Of note: There are a lot of stairs and dark, narrow spaces. I am a slow walker and have two replaced knees, one of which doesn't bend as much as the other. I can do stairs, though I am slow. So be ready for that! The second cave, also has a steep ladder to climb. But it was very exciting and worth it. Our guide was quite helpful and patient with me being the slow-poke. He was also funny! The maintenence of the caves is fabulous and most places where there are stairs, a handrail is available. I think this is a unique and worthwhile experience to add to your visit to Budapest!

A highlight of our time in Budapest

Budapest is an incredible city with so many amazing sights, food, and museums above ground. We were surprised how much we loved our tour of the Pál-völgyi and Szemlő-hegyi caves. The introductory movie was great, our tour guide was amazing, and the walk between the caves was a good break between the cave tours. We appreciated having an English tour with a friendly and knowledgeable guide, who we could ask questions instead of having a headset with a prerecorded tour. We were in a small group of about a dozen people so it was easy to stay with the group and hear our guide. Next time we are in Budapest I expect we will go on this tour again. There are steps of different sizes, some almost like a ladder, and some walking in the caves and between the caves, so if that is a concern for you perhaps just tour the Szemlő-hegyi Cave which is a much easier tour.

ONE TIME!

Highly recommend it. Exploring the caves was a dream and Pete the group leader made the cave hike unique with his knowledge and humor. Would do this activity again and recommend

get down

Dark and cool, i recommend a mobile/flashlight and a light jacket. The tour includes a cave right at the entrance and after a sho walk (10min) a second cave tour. The experience was great and the guide was friendly and helpful.

Budapest Cave Walking

An excellent experience with a brilliant guide who was so knowledgeable about the cave systems. We visited 2 separate caves which were a good 20 minutes walk apart. When they say dress for the cold believe them. Luckily we had taken the advice. There is a lot of walking and climbing up and down steps plus a 7m ladder climb. You will need to have a reasonable fitness level for this particular event. If you are able to do this, it is well worth it but don't go if tired. Brilliant experience.

June cave exploration

Great experience, would definitely recommend! The path wasn’t difficult and the pace was good. The temperature in both cave systems was fine and didn’t need a jacket.

Very cool experience!

Super cool experience and I mean that in two ways! Cool as in awesome, but cool as in chilly inside the caves as well. But it was great learning about why these caves exist and our guide had a fun sense of humor as well. You get to explore two caves on this journey and after the first one, you have a great view of Budapest and then get to enjoy your inner child by going down a brief playground slide. The walk to the second cave is half a mile (our group did it in 12 minutes) and it has a mild incline at some points but it's really a pretty leisurely hike. Bring a sweatshirt to wear inside the cave. The temperature inside is about 11 celsius or 50 fahrenheit. It's also damp and you may have water drip on you (though nothing significant. You won't get drenched or anything)
