Do not rely on meeting point in the multiple emails you will receive after booking this tour. We hired a cab and arrived early at the appointed location, there was no tour guide. At the start time I received a phone call from them asking where I was. I told them I was on the meeting pin spot from Google and where were they? I described my location. The tour guide didn’t know where I was. In a funny but hopeless conversation they told me I needed to go up, down, over, and to walk away from the city. None of these helped me. I asked for specifics. I got a new location and was told that I’d been sent a message the day before with the new details. I had not received a message on this tour, but I had received several messages on a tour the day before - fyi those messaged asked me to acknowledge receipt - handy tip. We used Google maps and make our way to the new meeting spot. The route seemed quite circuitous and about 15 minutes long. The tour guide called us a second time asked where we where & told us to meet at a certain hotel. As it happens, we had no cell service due to tall buildings perhaps and couldn’t look up the address of this hotel. Eventually, we got the addy and kept moving along ( two people in our group where slow walkers plus i am recovering from a serious lung infection). After what seemed like 30+ minutes of not feeling like we werent making much progress. I called the tour guide. I told them I was putting 4 of the ladies in a taxi and dropping out to get some medical attention. I ask them to please wait for for the ladies at the hotel. They were getting into the cab and would be there asap. When they arrived, the hotel staff was wonderful, but there was no sign of the tour nor did anyone know they had ever been there. Sunk costs are; 1.5 hours for 5 people, two taxis, cost of tour, cost of three Canada > Australia phone calls. Very disappointing. I feel if the tour guide identified where we were at 11 AM and given clear direction like “get in a cab and go to x location” it all would have worked out. I didn’t want to do a public review and tried to provide this feedback to Viator yesterday. Unfortunately, the agent just wanted to book me on more tours. When I ask them to send me a link or email address so I could submit feedback They sent an email thanking me for having already submitted my feedback. I’ve enjoyed using Viator in other countries and had no issues. Australia has not worked out so far.
Thanks for comment and review. You were emailed the night before the tour took place with the details of the meeting place and the meeting location is also listed on the tour listing very clearly. In all my years doing this tour no one has ever been nearly an hour late leaving myself and other guests waiting. Sorry it didnt work out for you.
This was absolutely incredible! An in depth, well researched tour with personal touches and an obvious love for the area and community. Wilma is so personable and everyone knows her on Oxford Street! I have some mobility issues and needed to rest sometimes and she was so understanding! I learned so much about the queer community in Sydney and the history of Oxford Street.
My bestfriend and I decided to do this tour because it was different and wanted to do a walking tour in general. The guide was great and very informative to say the least. The tour went over a bit and didn’t end in time but that was ok.
Thank you Deloria!
Such a fun tour! Wonder Mama brought us on a funny, informative, and well planned tour of Oxford St and the surrounding area. Was great to learn some of Sydney's LGBT history. One of the highlights of our trip to Sydney!
Thanks so much Ciaran!!
We did the tour on Christmas Eve day. The weather was perfect, and we really got our moneys worth! Wilma, aka The Fabulous Wonder Mama, was amazing. We had a 3.5 hour walk around all of Sydney's gay "must see" places. She was really entertaining, and kept us amused, entertained, and informed the whole time. We got to meet some of the local LGBT shop owners, and Wilma seemed to know everyone. It was really a fun time, and I recommend this tour to anyone, gay or straight, who wants a fun and informative time!
What a great day! Wilma was a wonderful guide with such a great knowledge of the history, businesses and locations of the Australian queer community. We had so much fun walking around getting to know each other and it felt like I had found my extended family which was so nice as a solo traveler.
This was such a fun tour to experience Queer Sydney from such a fabulous Drag Queen. So knowledgeable, learned a lot, and was fabulously entertained.
So much fun! Sydney was even my old stomping ground in the naughties but I learned so much, so much has changed and SUPER MUMMA is a bloody RIOT! Whether you are visiting or a local, I highly recommend this tour! So what are you waiting for?! Get your ass up off the couch and go for a walk in our beautiful city and meet some awesome humans!
I had a fabulous time with Wonder Mama! She had so much knowledge on LGBTQ. And she taught me so easily to understand. And the free gelato was delicious too 😋 100% recommend!
A wonderful window into the world of drag and queer secrets of Darlinghurst told through the glamorously dressed eyes of Wonder Mamma. Warmth, humor and honesty brought the rich and colorful history of this little strip of Sydney alive and personal anecdotes and connections made it real 💕
