Le musée San Marco comprend la plupart des ambiances du couvent dominicain conçu par Michelozzo, l'un des plus grands architectes de la Renaissance et commandé par Cosimo "Il Vecchio" de 'Medici. Le musée se développe dans diverses salles évocatrices, contenant l'un des cycles de peintures les plus célèbres au monde du moine dominicain Beato Angelico. La visite commence dans l'élégant cloître de Saint-Antoine, où nous trouvons des portes avec des lunettes décorées de fresques qui mènent aux anciennes salles abritant de nombreuses œuvres magnifiques sur bois et des fresques de Beato Angelico. La visite se poursuit par le Grand Réfectoire avec des peintures de Fra Bartolomeo. Dans le sma Réfectoire est par contre conservée une magnifique fresque de Domenico Ghirlandaio, un grand artiste du 500, représentant la Dernière Cène. A l'étage nous attend la visite "à ne pas manquer" des cellules des moines dans lesquelles vous pourrez admirer les fresques incomparables de Beato Angelico. La visite du musée se terminera dans les ambiances suggestives de la Bibliothèque
Votre visite sera enrichie par une visite guidée extérieure captivante de la place San Marco et de la place Santissima Annunziata, situées à quelques pas du musée, où vous pourrez admirer de magnifiques bâtiments d'un intérêt absolu.

Hilaria was very knowledgeable about Fra Angélico, and the convent. It was a great experience to see the frescoes!! It was a morning tour so not very crowded.

I had the good fortune of touring the Fra Angelico exhibit and his frescoes at San Marco convent in Florence with Ilaria. She is a young art historian with remarkable depth—her knowledge of Fra Angelico, the history of the convent, and the wider context of Renaissance Florence brought every corridor and cell to life. It was the highlight of my visit to Florence. Ilaria guided me through the portion of the current Fra Angelico exhibition housed there, but the true magic came when we viewed the monks’ cells. Her explanations of the frescoes were clear, insightful, and delivered with an enthusiasm that never felt rehearsed. You sense immediately that she genuinely loves this material, and that energy makes the experience unforgettable. On top of her expertise, she’s wonderful company: friendly, easy to talk to, and attentive. I never felt rushed, and she answered every question thoughtfully. Despite my interest in art, my knowledge is somewhat thin. Ilaria met me where I was and added depth that was both engaging and enlightening. I can’t recommend her enough.

My mom and I had a fantastic tour of the monastery with a guide who was incredibly knowledgeable about all of the art. She showed us so much, and we were able to walk around independently at the end. We definitely recommend this tour. We’re also glad that we did the morning option—it wasn’t super busy with school groups yet so we really got to see everything up close.

Terrific guide. Terrific art which she carefully explained She went through the history of the convent as well which helped put the art in focus.
Titiana was our guide and she was a wonderful guide and knowledgeable lady. She provided so much information and insights about the art, artists and history which deepened our understanding of what was happening at the time the art was created. She had a great sense of reverence for the art and it’s place in history of the world as well as for Florence. Great tour and interesting insights.
This was one of the most unique museums we have ever visited. Our knowledgeable guide brought to life the living conditions, experiences, and work of those who lived in this convent in the 15th century as well as the life of some of its most notable inhabitants. We would never have gotten as much out of this visit without such a great guide.
