Txikiteo : La première règle du club txikiteo est : il n'y a pas de règles. Une définition approximative de « txikiteo » pourrait être : aller de bar en bar, manger un pintxo et boire un verre de quelque chose (l'habituel est une boisson à faible teneur en alcool, pas des cocktails !) Dans chacun. Le txikiteo se fait debout, devant le bar plein de pintxos et entouré de personnes que vous ne connaissez pas (mais que vous pourriez finir par rencontrer.) Et c'est précisément ce que vous ferez avec Ikusnahi : du pur txikiteo, volant de bar en bar, dégustant la spécialité la plus renommée de chacun dans un environnement authentiquement basque et entouré de locaux que, vous savez, vous ne connaissez pas.. .mais que vous pourriez finir par rencontrer.
Pintxo : Un morceau de cuisine miniature qui a commencé comme quelque chose de simple (une portion d'omelette de pommes de terre, une tranche de jambon sur du pain...) et que les bars du Pays basque ont amélioré au fil du temps en le complexifiant afin de attirer plus de clients. L'histoire est passionnante et il existe autant de versions qu'il y a d'historiens. Lors de notre visite, vous découvrirez certains d'entre eux, ainsi que de nombreuses autres curiosités sur le culte de l'estomac qui existe au Pays basque. Boire : C'est l'autre grande religion (avec Manger) du Pays Basque. Le vin et le cidre sont les boissons préférées des Basques depuis cinq siècles, même si la bière domine depuis quelques années. Saviez-vous qu'au XVIe siècle, les marins basques souffraient peu du scorbut lors des longs voyages en mer, grâce au cidre qu'ils buvaient ?
Txakoli : Vin blanc sec et pétillant typiquement basque dont les raisins sont cultivés dans des vignobles proches de la mer Cantabrique. Il est idéal pour accompagner des plats de poisson... ou des pintxos. Rien de plus à ajouter. Cidre : Boisson peu alcoolisée obtenue à partir de jus de pomme fermenté. Légèrement sucré, légèrement amer, il n'a qu'un seul danger : il se boit aussi facilement que l'eau. Zurito : Short drink de bière (environ 20-25 cl.) Idéal pour accompagner les pintxos. Le terme « zurito » est exclusif au Pays basque. Si vous allez à Madrid et que vous demandez un « zurito », personne ne vous comprendra (sauf si le barman est basque, bien sûr).

The private pinxtos tour was incredible! Our guide, Malena, not only was so knowledgeable about San Sebastián, she knew the best places to go. She guided us on the all the pintxos choices. It would have been overwhelming without her! She was an absolute delight to spend many hours with.
We had an incredible time exploring the pintxos scene in San Sebastián with Luis! He is a fantastic guide who is incredibly friendly, knowledgeable, and passionate about the local food culture. It honestly felt less like a formal tour and much more like we were being shown around the city by a local friend. Over the course of the afternoon, Luis took us to five different spots, and the curation was absolutely perfect. We loved that we got a true taste of everything—the stops ranged from delicious, traditional bites to slightly more upscale, modern plates. The food at every single place was fantastic. Beyond the amazing food and conversation, he also went out of his way to give us great recommendations for the rest of our stay. If you are visiting San Sebastián, booking this tour with Luis is an absolute must. We highly recommend him!

Amazing experience, and our guide (Iñigo) was SO good. We learned not only about the history of pintxos, but also lots of history and how to navigate the various bars. Cider and wine as well as food was excellent. I am a vegetarian and this was nicely accommodated. Ask for Iñigo for extra fun - he’s super engaging, enthusiastic, and funny.

We had a lovely afternoon with Martin enjoying the local cuisine and learning about beautiful San Sebastián. We decided to do a private tour so we could go at our own pace. Martin was very accommodating and very knowledgeable about Spain, food and wine and especially the Basque cuisine and culture - answering all our questions.
So many good things to say. We were able to book online last minute. We had less than 24 hours. We booked a 5 wine/5 Pintxos tour with a private guide. The response was very quick. We learned later that the tour company usually doesn’t do tours on Sundays, but arrange one just for us. Our guide, Mattin, was knowledgeable and went to a great deal of efforts to customize the experience for us. We saw and learned things that we wouldn’t have discovered any other way. And he was just fun to spend time with. Highly, highly recommend.
