Super nice and informative trip around the cape! Learned a ton and saw great sites :) even though it was raining I still had a great day!
Mark was a great guide, and our family really enjoyed the hike. We were late arriving and further delayed in starting, and Mark showed extreme patience. He explained everything we asked about, and paced the hike just right for short legs and a variety of taxonomic interests. He even shared his lunch and water with us! We learned about Mark and his son from a pair of fanatical field ecology professors who raved about their multi day experience with this operator. We share their high opinion!
We are a family of four with a teenager and pre-teen. Mark took us for a day out exploring Cape Point. Mark is extremely knowledgeable about the flora and fauna as well as local history so we learnt so much about the area. We saw the penguins at Boulders Beach, as well as Cape Point itself but the highlight of the day was the shipwreck trail which took us in to the hills to see the beautiful fynbos and local birds, then down to a stunning white sand beach with two shipwrecks which we walked past. We also saw ostrich and baboons which the kids loved. On the way back, Mark accommodated my wish to swim and we stopped off at another beautiful beach with turquoise water. Memories we will never forget! I would highly recommend Mark as a guide.
This was in fact my third hike, two with Justin and one with Mark. All in different areas. I find it very interesting and professional, I can learn a lot about fauna and flora while I’m hiking. I feel I’m in good hands and can fully trust my guide. I’m looking forward to my next hikes with them.
Insightful, interesting, fascinating and fun. Thanks to Justin from the Table Mountain Trek and Tours we had a wonderful time exploring the Cape Point reserve. We learned so much about the nature, its wildlife and all related to it. Next year we plan to go for another tour, taking the extended family with us.
If you love nature, seeing exotic plants & flowers, and wildlife in natural habitat, this tour is a must for you. Mark, my guide, is very friendly and knowledgeable. He showed me those off-the-beaten-path locations in the Cape of Good Hope area where are often overlooked by many tourists. Hiking at Sirkelsvlei trail is wonderful. If you want to see things more than just a signboard of Cape of Good Hope and the lighthouse, I recommend this tour.
Mark was so sweet and extremely knowledgeable about the flora, fauna, and birds of the National Park, as well as Cape Town in general. He comes from generations of guides in his family and has a long history of conservation and work in the National Parks. You can really feel his passion for what he does.
My tour guide Mark was outstanding! Great communication allowed me to convey my goals and Mark put together a perfect itinerary. We departed on time and covered lots of ground including seeing the penguins, zebra, numerous antelope, birds and all manner of diverse plants. We traveled far and got in lots of scenic hiking. I learned so many interesting things about the local fauna and flora. I definitely recommend Table Mountain Treks and Tours.
As an avid birder, I have traveled the world and have had many guides. Mark Hawthorne owner of the family-run Table Mountain Treks and Tours is one of the best. He has over 40 years of cultural, natural history, and avian guiding experience. We traveled the region with him and to say we were impressed would be an understatement. He worked so hard to give us a sunrise-to-sunset enriching experience every day. Mark is a teacher, and conservationist and is highly praised and holds many awards and honors for his years of service to the conservation work in and around the Cape.
I spent a fair amount of time researching who I wanted to be my guide around the cape, and can confidently say Table mountain treks and tours did not disappoint! From the start Lindsay has been super attentive really getting to know what I would like to see and do around they cape, helpful to build a bispoke tour for us. Originally we booked one day tour amongst Boulders Beach, and the Cape of Good Hope. However within a few hours we where so impressed with Marks knowledge, we where already booking our second day hike and wine estate tour. We've truly loved our time with Mark, he really took the time to get to know us and our interests really tailoring the experience for us. Marks enthusiasm has really come across, he is truly a well of information! I've learned so much from my time with Mark and he would certainly bey first point of call should I return to South Africa. Importantly by booking with Table mountain treks and tours you'll be supporting a small family business, that want to do the best for their guests.
