C'est un petit et très beau monastère avec des tourelles rondes couronnées de dômes pointus en forme de tente. Le monastère se dresse au-dessus de la rivière Rioni et est enfoui dans la végétation côtière. Selon la légende, le monastère a été construit à l'endroit où les agresseurs musulmans ont exécuté David et Konstantin Mkheidze, princes géorgiens qui refusaient d'accepter l'islam. Dans une petite salle du monastère sur une éminence se trouve une grande arche rectangulaire avec les reliques des princes pieux canonisés par l'Église géorgienne. Motsameta attire des foules de touristes avec une ancienne superstition : si l'on rampe trois fois sous l'arche et fait un vœu en touchant les reliques, les princes David et Constantin l'exauceront. Le tsar Bagrat III reconstruisit l'église au Xe siècle. Le bâtiment a été reconstruit au 19ème siècle.
Le monastère de Gelati est situé dans la région d'Imereti. Le monastère a été fondé par David le Bâtisseur en 1106. On lit dans son testament : « Le monastère est resté pour toujours pour mon enterrement et pour la crypte de mes enfants et je supporterai une douleur éternelle, afin que mon fils Dimitri achève la construction ». Ici est enterré le plus grand roi de Géorgie. L'ensemble comprend l'église principale de l'Assomption de la Vierge, l'église Saint-Georges, l'église Saint-Nicolas, le clocher, l'académie et la clôture. Le monastère de Gelati était le plus grand centre culturel et éducatif. Le complexe Gelati est inscrit sur la liste des sites du patrimoine mondial de l'UNESCO.
Tskhrajvari (« Neuf Croix ») est probablement le point de vue le plus spectaculaire de toute la Géorgie et certainement l'une des meilleures randonnées d'une journée près de Kutaisi. Tskhrajvari est un lieu de pèlerinage orthodoxe et un point de vue situé près du col de Nakerala, à la limite des régions d'Imereti et de Racha-Lechkhumi, en Géorgie occidentale. À 1 500 mètres d'altitude, il offre une vue incroyable sur les montagnes du Grand Caucase, notamment sur les sommets jumeaux d'Ushba. Par temps clair, vous pouvez voir jusqu'à la mer Noire. La randonnée commence derrière la station de téléphérique en béton abandonnée. Immédiatement, nous commençons à monter, mais avec une pente très douce. Le chemin n’est pas strictement balisé mais il est assez évident où aller. En cas de doute, suivez les rochers blancs. Des points de vue s'ouvrent tout au long du parcours. Vous verrez également divers sanctuaires religieux, notamment un tronc d'arbre évidé rempli d'icônes, et des arbres à souhaits chargés d'écharpes en satin, de rubans et de morceaux de tissu déchiré.
Le réservoir Shaori est l'un des endroits les plus attrayants de Racha. En direction de Racha, vous ne pourrez pas dépasser le Réservoir qui vous éblouit par son paysage.
La cathédrale de Nikortsminda est une église orthodoxe géorgienne située à Nikortsminda, dans la région de Racha en Géorgie. Nikortsminda a été construite entre 1010 et 1014 sous le règne de Bagrat III de Géorgie[1] et a été réparée en 1534 par le roi Bagrat III d'Iméréthie. Le clocher à trois étages à côté de la cathédrale a été construit dans la seconde moitié du XIXe siècle. Les fresques à l'intérieur de la cathédrale datent du XVIIe siècle. La cathédrale suit un plan en croix rectangulaire à bras courts et comporte un court segment à l'ouest. Les façades de la cathédrale sont recouvertes de pierres de taille lisse. Les décorations comprennent des arcatures ininterrompues et divers ornements riches, notamment des reliefs et des épisodes narratifs à plusieurs figures. Nikortsminda possède parmi les plus belles décorations de toutes les églises et cathédrales géorgiennes, car plusieurs styles différents peuvent être vus. La cathédrale est inscrite sur la liste indicative du patrimoine mondial de l'UNESCO.

The tour was very diverse. We enjoyed beautiful views and visited a 2nd-century monastery. We also went fishing together. Our guide gave us plenty of time for everything; he's very knowledgeable.
Irakli is a very knowledgeable, kind, and passionate guide. We had a great time on this off-the-beaten path tour to the remote and beautiful Racha region, with a good mix of mountain/lake views, hike, and monasteries. He also was quite flexible and added optional secondary stops. He was also a great, smooth driver and gave us many helpful recommendations. Highly recommended!

This was the perfect itinerary focused on the mountains and monasteries with the bonus combination of a mini hike plus walk and a food tour thanks to our wonderful free flowing interaction with Iracli. Kudos to Iracli for picking us up from our hostel on the outskirts of Kutaisi 💯 He patiently explained the history of the various monasteries we visited and gave us real deep insights into the differences among the regions within Georgia! Given we’re a relatively physically active couple, Iracli offered to hike with us to the top of the nine crosses mountain. He even included two bonus stops after the last stop since we vibed so well! We tasted local Racha delicacies in Ambroulari and then even took a detour to visit a waterfall on the route back to Kutaisi. To top it all, he’s an avid football fan so we watched the man united match together during the journey. In short, I’d highly recommend at least a day with him in Georgia to get the perfect local experience blended with fun 🤩

My son and I had an amazing experience visiting Racha region with Saba from Georgian Voyage.
