My family and I didn’t really know entirely what to expect when booking this itinerary, but words cannot express how incredibly impressed we were by the end of the trip. Discover Sumatra executed a flawless, seamless, and deeply memorable tour from start to finish. If you are on the fence about booking, do it! It was an absolute 11 out of 10 experience. The hands-down peak of our trip was the trek into Gunung Leuser National Park from Bukit Lawang. Sleeping in half-open riverside shelters, falling asleep to the sounds of the rainforest, and spotting wild orangutans was pure magic. That being said, the hiking can get intense on the 3-Day, 2-Night Jungle Trek, and we had moments of real difficulty within our group with some of the steep climbs and descends. This is where our incredible guiding team truly shone. They stepped in to assist the moment we struggled, even carrying our packs on their own backs for periods of time so we could hike unburdened and reset our bodies. Our main guide, Imran, went absolutely above and beyond every single day to ensure we had the best possible experience. We felt completely safe, comfortable, and cared for with him, as well as with the other guides and private drivers, every single step of the way. Their knowledge of the local ecosystem, plants, and wildlife is unmatched, and their camp cooking (amazing vegetarian jungle lunches and candlelit Indonesian dinners) was fantastic. Beyond the trekking, the rest of the itinerary was incredibly smooth. The 4-hour drives between destinations flew by, and our drivers were great about letting us stop for lunch breaks or photo ops whenever we wanted. All of the scheduled activities, from the sunrise hike up Mount Sibayak and the hot springs to the private cultural tour of Samosir Island, were incredibly well-timed. We truly did not know what to expect going into this, but we came away completely blown away. I cannot recommend Discover Sumatra and Imran's team enough. If you're looking for a seamless, unforgettable adventure, book this tour!

Our 7-day Sumatra private adventure with Discover Sumatra was truly unforgettable. From trekking through the jungle in Bukit Lawang and spotting so many orangutans in their natural habitat, to watching the sunrise over Lake Toba and hiking up Sibayak volcano — every day felt magical. The guides were incredible: friendly, knowledgeable, and genuinely passionate about what they do. Everything was so well organized and seamless that we could just relax and enjoy the experience. We left with amazing memories and a deep appreciation for this beautiful island. Couldn’t recommend Discover Sumatra more!

From the airport pick-up to Medan back, everything was perfectly organized on our individually put together private tour: consistently super nice, very helpful and mega child-friendly drivers and guides who always took into account the changing and different needs of a family with 2 children! Cars and hotels all clean and comfortable. Anytime again!!!

We had an unforgettable week in Sumatra, all thanks to Discover Sumatra’s amazing organisation. The two-day jungle trek in Bukit Lawang was challenging but incredibly rewarding — we saw many orangutans and monkeys, slept by the river, and swam in it too! The climb up Mount Sibayak at sunrise with Mel Gibson was another highlight (his pandan brownies and coffee made it extra special). We also loved our time at Lake Toba, getting to know the Batak people and their culture. Sharing an authentic Batak lunch with Eric and his family was a true highlight that gave us a real taste of local life. Huge thanks to all our incredible guides: the jungle team in Bukit Lawang, our safe and experienced driver Aries, brilliant Mel Gibson, and kind Eric on Samosir Island. Beautiful nature, genuine people, real adventure — we couldn’t have asked for more. Can't recommend it enough.

Amazing guides and driver-guides, pleasant places to stay and incredible responsiveness to questions and issues via WhatsApp and email. The tour was an unforgettable experience and perfectly organized by Discover Sumatra. We had wonderful drivers and guides who accompanied us in the 6 days. We would book again anytime with Discover Sumatra and wish we could have spent more time on the island. Our highlights were definitely the jungle as well as Lake Toba. I booked a round trip with Discover Sumatra. The booking process was straightforward and flexible. Communication was professional and reliable. On site everything was wonderfully individually organized. A big highlight of the tour was the jungle trekking with 2 nights in the jungle and great guides!

A journey that we will surely remember! The tour allowed us to get to know the many facets of Sumatra and the lives of the people there. Thanks to knowledgeable guides, we got an uncomplicated insight into how to make palm sugar, tempeh or rubber, prepared the typical Gado Gado salad ourselves, watched Utan mothers with their babies in the jungle orangutans, climbed the Sibayak volcano at dawn and prepared one of the well-known dishes on an open fire at home with a Batak woman on Samosir Island - ginger, turmeric and chili we got from the garden beforehand. We felt safe at all times. Everything went according to plan, which allowed enough freedom for spontaneous adjustments. All in all, we got a really great insight into the culture and life of the people on Sumatra - we were very close - that was very enriching.

Wonderful experience in the north of Sumatra, thanks to the careful organisation of Discover Sumatra and to the enthusiasm and competence of the local guides. Great experience in the jungle, despite the rainy season (was raining only at night), exciting excursion to the volcano at sunrise, rest and discover of local culture at Samosir island. Good hotels and perfect transfers. Syaipul, Imran and Windy have been really great in helping us to discover this nice region.
