This is not a guided tour, this activity provides a driver with passable English to take you to places in Nikko and surrounding areas. We did not go to the Villa as the caption said we would. The driver said it was due to the weather but that doesn’t make sense to me as It was only rainy. I felt as though this tour was very expensive for what we received. I was going to give a higher review until the end when the driver took us to outlet stores, we told him this wasn’t our thing but we would try. He said to meet us back at the car. After 15 minutes we returned to the car and he wasn’t there. We called him and he said he would be there in 1 minute. He showed up 10 minutes later after having purchased an item. He also stopped twice to buy himself food. After the outlets while driving back to Tokyo he proceeded to request us to give him a 5* review and sent us the link while driving us on a freeway. He pressured us over and over to write a 5* review until my husband asked him to stop as he wouldn’t listen to me. It was very uncomfortable end to the day. Nikko is well worth a visit. It is absolutely intriguing and beautiful. The signage and internet provided us with all the detail to fully enjoy the area. We had bad luck with the weather at the falls and lake but very much enjoyed our time on our own at Nikko once we figured out this wasn’t a guided tour.
The history and artistry and tradition we experienced really brought our visit to Japan alive ! Especially the intricate carvings in the shrine buildings
nikko was beautiful . worth a trip and maybe more time needed. driver maz was polite, punctual and safe.
Very nice trip with the best guide, Abdul. We have time to show all, the guide speak well English. I recommend
Well where do I start. I can’t exactly call it a tour as we really only got a driver. No comments as to what we were seeing. He was arrogant, asked to stop at service stations on the way there and back so he could get a caffeine fix!! He was out the night before and was called last minute to do our tour. What made us worry more was the speed the car was going…up to 140 he was saying in Japan there was a leeway and it was ok even if the speed limit was 80. When we got back to the hotel and mentioned it to the manager…this was not the case. Then as we were nearly back to the hotel, at a traffic light, the driver floored it and had to avoid a car pulling out…wasn’t his fault however if he hadn’t been going so fast he would have avoided it…then the cars tires were so bald…not exactly a good advertisement for the tour. Out of all tours in Japan we did, this was our most disappointing.
We have checked our record and also talked to Viator/TripAdvisor, you never booked the tour with us and we don’t know where it came from. We have reported it to Viator/TripAdvisor as well to take appropriate action.
Well worth it for this not to be missed experience! Traveled with my sister and our mother. Our guide, Newton, was well versed on the history and was very accommodating to ensure our elderly mother had minimal walking and steps on the tour. He was knowledgeable of the Japanese culture today and shared it as well as tips for foreigners! Our mom is a Japanese native, but it has been some time since her last visit. He spoke English for us and would speak Japanese with our mom 😀. Nice touch.
Pros: car was great and spacious, and the driver was wonderful and accommodating as a person Cons: spending that much time, going to a historical place far away from the city without any historical context, or Guide was disappointing The listing is misleading because with an English-speaking driver, we were expecting to have a guided tour, but every location the driver just wanted to stay at the car, and not really coming to the attractions of us are give us any explanation of the sites as he said that his job is primarily just to drive the guests from site to site. Also, Shinkyo bridge is listed as one of the attractions but it is closed and no one can come and go over the bridge or climb it. In fact, you can’t even really stop there.
Thank you for your comments. The tour you booked was “Private One Day Nikko Tour with Bilingual driver” and it was not a guided tour. We do have guided tour with extra charges. Our drivers can give you an overview of the attraction but they are not a guide. When you visit next time please book a guided tour so you can get detailed information. Thank you for using our company.
We had a driver who accommodated our wishes & the mobility limitations of one of the members of our party. Driver had little knowledge of the place he took us.

Our tour guide was the best we have ever had anywhere. He was very nice, well informed of the history and had a very good knowledge of the whole country. Also he is very good in communication. I strongly recommend eveyone
We would like to inform you of our great disappointment from the tour to Nikko in reference above, we purchased from you. The day started with more than half an hour delay of the driver. (Stuck in traffic..??!!) But that was the least of the matter. Driver in general was so sweet and really tried hard, but he was obviously not capable of conducting such a day tour. He knows absulutly nothing about the area or it’s attractions (even said it himself..) nor he knew what was the package deal promised. So hard as he tried, and he did, we did not get the expected value for our money. Therefore unfortunately most of the time was spent on googling and wandering about, making U turns again and again. We finished the day not seeing half of what we expected or planned and of what Nikko has to offer. You published this private tour as a GUIDED tour but as much as our driver tried, he was just not suitable for the job and we didn’t get what we paid for. It’s important for us to emphasize that we do not blame the driver for this. The responsibility is solely on you for publishing a guided tour and then not assigning a capable guide for the tour. Tour was one big disappointment.
