I gave this two stars because the turtles were great! I loved the turtles and loved being in the water with them but the tour itself is disorganized. My tour guide picked me up and then picked another man up to go snorkeling to see dolphins. This tour doesn’t advertise dolphins, and I did not want to go snorkeling that day. Then I was supposed to have lunch but the lunch wasn’t ready because I wasn’t interested in snorkeling . It seems like they added other activities just to take up the time and add other guides to the tour. My main reason for booking this was for the turtles and the sunset. After the turtles there was nothing to do for 4 hours until sunset. It seemed like a group of people trying to make money off a solo traveler. This tour doesn’t advertise not need to be a whole day. It should be half a day. See the turtles, and then go catch the sunset at the beach. FYI I had been on the island for days and the reason I didn’t care to snorkel is because I can’t swim and I had a bad experience the day before while out snorkeling with a life jacket and a guide. I was Loki g forward to a relaxed day with just the turtles and the sunset.
Omar, our guide, was great from start to finish. He speaks very good French, always smiling and really caring — we felt confident all day. He made us discover Mnemba: we were able to swim above the sandbank in a totally transparent water... beautiful 😍 Then a little snorkeling not far with superb fish. We also saw starfish and dolphins. For the dolphins, I’m not necessarily a fan at the base, but there weren’t many boats, so the observation was calm and very close. Back on the coast, we ate in a shaded place with water and drinks available — perfect for recuperation. Then head to Nungwi to see the turtles: waaaaaw, really beautiful. Frankly, it's nothing like some negative reviews. There were not too many people, we received a lot of seaweed to feed them and the weather there was ideal. There are showers and toilets available, which is convenient. Useful little info: turtles are harmless, but they can sometimes pinch if an algae is stuck to you. It is better to throw the seaweed a little further away from your bathing area. We finished in Kendwa: very nice beach with toilets, bars and shops. Day at the top, thank you again! Marvin
Disappointing, areas visited where too crowded, lunch was very basic, maybe we expected too much
Everything was perfect. From start to finish An unforgettable day in paradise. The driver was friendly and on time. Snorkling, the Fresh fruit on the boat in the middle of the Indian Ocean, natural pools, I even swam with dolphins. Lunch was sumptuous, I fed and swam with sea turtles and the end of the day on the beach in Ningwi/kendwa and end up with a beautiful sunset A big thank you to my guide Chudy (who learned French by himself) of incredible kindness and who allowed me to live a unique moment! The next day I already wanted to book again The price/quality ratio is without appeal
Don't do it. Pure animal cuelty. Turtles stolen from their natural habitat to be put in fresh water which is slowly killing them. Do not support this unethical cruel activity. Turtles can also bite.
Subject: Regarding your recent review of Baraka Natural Aquarium Dear Isabella, Thank you for taking the time to share your feedback. We would like to take this opportunity to provide some additional context regarding the turtles at the Baraka Natural Aquarium. First, we want to assure you that the turtles are not captured from the ocean for display. As we explain in our visitor briefing, they are rescue animals brought to us by local fishermen for emergency care after being accidentally entangled in fishing nets. The aquarium is a natural, saltwater sanctuary that is directly connected to the ocean. Its water level rises and falls with the tide, creating a habitat that closely mimics their natural environment. Our primary purpose for housing these turtles is for their treatment and rehabilitation. The sanctuary also serves an important educational role, providing research opportunities for students from around the world (especially from landlocked countries) and offering a responsible tourism experience. Regarding the risk of being bitten, the turtles are herbivores and naturally docile. However, we advise guests to be cautious during feeding sessions. A turtle may bite accidentally if it confuses a person's skin with the food being offered. Finally, our commitment to conservation is central to our mission. Each year in February, we release the rehabilitated turtles back into the ocean to continue their natural life cycle and reproduce. We hope this information clarifies our purpose and our dedication to the welfare of these animals. Thank you again for your review. Sincerely, Youssuf
We swam with the dolphins in open waters, fed the dozens of turtles that congregated around us. Our guide Yassir was sooo nice and funny. Seafood lunch was excellent and our transportation minivan was brand new and comfortable. Excellent excursion that I would recommend to anyone. Thank you for the wonderful experience.
