Montserrat est un monastère situé au sommet d'une montagne rocheuse inhabituelle. C'est le point culminant de la plaine catalane. Le monastère de Montserrat abrite « la Moreneta », également appelée la Vierge noire. La légende dit que les moines bénédictins ont trouvé la statue et qu'ils ne pouvaient pas déplacer la statue pour construire leur monastère, ils ont donc décidé de la construire autour de la statue. Montserrat a été désigné parc national en 1987. Aujourd'hui, c'est un lieu de pèlerinage de personnes du monde entier. Une fois à Montserrat, profitez d'une visite guidée de 45 minutes, puis vous aurez 2 heures pour explorer. Vous pouvez visiter la Moreneta, entrer dans le musée, goûter la liqueur maison du monastère, faire une promenade facile.
L'origine du monastère est incertaine, mais on pense que la Vierge de Monsterrat (la Moreneta) a été retrouvée vers 880. Selon les légendes, les moines construisent le monastère autour de la statue. Le monastère fonctionne encore à ce jour avec plus de 70 moines. La basilique de Montserrat a commencé sa construction au XVIe siècle et abrite aujourd'hui un musée d'art. C'est aussi le lieu où la Escolania, l'une des plus anciennes chorales de garçons d'Europe, se produit lors de cérémonies religieuses.
Pendant votre temps libre, vous pourrez visiter le musée de Montserrat, qui abrite six collections d'art permanentes et deux temporaires. Vous trouverez des pièces d'artistes célèbres tels que Picasso, Dalí, Caravaggio, et aussi des artistes inconnus mais talentueux.
Pendant votre temps libre, empruntez le funiculaire et profitez de la vue panoramique sur la montagne. Le funiculaire offre une vue sur le monastère ainsi qu'une vue imprenable sur les Pyrénées. Au sommet, vous pouvez également visiter Aula de Natura (Centre de la nature), où vous découvrirez l'histoire, la flore et la faune de la montagne.

Aaron was fantastic! He made the whole trip so easy and hands off. When my four year-old got tired on the long walk, he offered to carry her on his shoulders for a bit. He even stopped in the gift shop to read her a story while I purchased my items. He was so kind and knowledgeable. This was a great tour for adults and for kids! We learned a lot and saw everything in a great amount of time. I’m so glad we booked and I would definitely book him again!

Vincenzo was an excellent guide. His knowledge of Catalonia and Monserrat is extensive. The tour included a driver and Vincenzo both of which were excellent. My son had a broken foot with limited mobility and both Vincenzo and the driver were very helpful. Montserrat is a very special place. Do not miss it if you are in Barcelona. This was a wonderful tour with a comfortable bus and 3 very knowledgeable guides. Our main guide was Francesco who was just as charming as could be. Only downside was the cloudiness, but it was still worth the trip.

We had a private tour for a half day - it was great to have a pick up at the apartment. The driver and tour guide were great. We were able to park right near the restaurant and Monestary.
