Décrite comme la « Porte de l’Orient » et la plus orientale des villes italiennes, Otrante a été fondée il y a des milliers d’années par des Grecs de Crète. Explorez cette histoire fascinante à travers ses principales attractions. Découvrez la Cathédrale d'Otrante, consacrée en 1088 et toujours le plus grand édifice roman des Pouilles. Admirez le sol en mosaïque, fait de milliers de carreaux représentant des scènes de l'Ancien Testament et des personnages de légendes bretonnes. Observez les colonnes qui proviendraient d'un temple de Minerve et les ossements et reliques des martyrs d'Otrante, tués lors du siège du XVe siècle. Admirez également les 42 colonnes de marbre soutenant la crypte. Continuez jusqu'à l'église Saint-Pierre et le château aragonais, renforcé par Frédéric II et reconstruit par Alphonse II de Naples entre 1485 et 1498, avec un plan irrégulier à cinq faces et un fossé entourant tout le périmètre. Enfin, profitez de la vue panoramique sur la mer : par temps clair, vous pourrez voir les côtes de Grèce et d'Albanie à travers l'Adriatique

Our guide was very knowledgeable of the 2 important churches in Otranto. They were the highlight of the town, 2 vastly different places! The mosaic floors were amazing!!

Otranto is beautiful. Took the tour with Pasqua and she was well informed about Otranto and it's history. We had a nice time together. She also introduced us to Lucesse coffee. So good!
