L'architecture et la disposition des capitales successives témoignent d'un haut niveau d'ordre social et de rang au sein de l'Empire khmer. Angkor est donc un site majeur illustrant des valeurs culturelles, religieuses et symboliques, ainsi qu'une grande importance architecturale, archéologique et artistique.
Angkor Thom, littéralement : « Grande Ville », contient plusieurs temples et sites antiques incontournables, notamment le temple du Bayon, la terrasse des éléphants, la terrasse du roi lépreux, le temple Baphoun et bien d'autres. C'est une visite incontournable lors d'un voyage à Siem Reap et ses temples antiques.
La caractéristique la plus distinctive du Bayon est la multitude de visages de pierre sereins et souriants du Bouddha - probablement calqués sur le visage du roi Jayavarman VII - de chaque côté, les nombreuses tours qui dépassent de la terrasse supérieure et se regroupent autour de son sommet central.
Baphuon d'Udayadityavarman II (règne 1050-1066) ; et le temple bouddhiste du Bayon, qui fut le temple central construit par Jayavarman VII lorsqu'il donna à la ville, connue plus tard sous le nom d'Angkor Thom, ou « Grande Ville », sa forme plus ou moins définitive.
Le temple Ta Nei est un temple très petit et rarement visité. Le manque d’autres visiteurs est l’une des nombreuses raisons pour lesquelles vous devriez visiter ce temple étonnant.
Construit à partir de 1186 et initialement connu sous le nom de Radjavihara (Monastère du Roi), Ta Prohm était un temple bouddhiste dédié à la mère de Jayavarman VII. C'est l'un des rares temples de la région d'Angkor où une inscription renseigne sur les dépendants et les habitants du temple.
Banteay Kdei, un immense monastère bouddhiste de la fin du XIIe siècle, est entouré de quatre murs concentriques. Chacune de ses quatre entrées est ornée de garudas, qui soutiennent l'un des thèmes favoris de Jayavarman VII : les quatre visages d'Avalokiteshvara.
Le temple Prasat Kravan est un temple hindou du Xe siècle dédié à VIshnu. C'est un temple relativement petit comparé aux autres temples du parc.

Good trip, but could be better described that the guide was not with into the temple, so had to hire a new guide inside. Would have been cheaper to rent tuktuk from the hotel

Soppal and Titiya were great guys and took us where we wanted to go. The temples close at 6pm beware of that! But after 5:40 is free Make sure you cover knees and shoulders or you can’t go in

Great tuktuk transportation through Angkor Wat. Sophal was very well prepared with towels and lots of water. He recommended a tour guide for $60 but I opted to do my own self paced tour with an audio guide and had an amazing time. Definitely need to book transportation between temples as it is quite a walk between them. Highly recommend this one as it was very accommodating, didn’t rush me and let me take it at my own pace which I really appreciated.
