Itinéraire
Sur votre chemin vers le temple de Poséidon, vous aurez la possibilité d'absorber les banlieues sud d'Athènes, telles que Old Faliron, Alimos et Glyfada. C'est un fait indéniable que ces zones sont considérées comme les plus développées de l'Attique. De plus, le voyageur a la possibilité d'observer le littoral de l'Attique regorgeant de marines privées et publiques, de boutiques et de cafés.
Un court arrêt pour les photos sera fait au lac Vouliagmeni. Le lagon s'est formé il y a environ 2000 ans. C'était autrefois une grande caverne qui s'est effondrée suite à un tremblement de terre. Le contour du toit de la caverne effondré peut être clairement discerné à distance. Le lac a des conditions environnementales tout à fait uniques: il est alimenté en eau de mer chaude (28-35 ° C) via un canal souterrain se propageant à travers un réseau de grottes inondées, de sorte que sa température ne descend jamais en dessous de 18 ° C (se situe généralement autour de 21-24 ° C) , alors qu'une source d'eau douce réduit sa salinité à des niveaux saumâtres (14,5-18 psu). En raison de sa température d'eau chaude constante et de sa riche teneur en sulfure d'hydrogène, le lac fonctionne comme une station thermale depuis la fin du 19e siècle.
Varkiza est un village pittoresque en bord de mer au milieu du chemin menant au cap Sounion. La région est très populaire auprès des Athéniens pour de courtes excursions en raison de ses plages, de ses boutiques et de ses clubs.
Le temple de Poséidon est construit au sommet de la colline, exactement au point de rencontre de la mer Saronique avec la mer Égée. Le temple était dédié au dieu Poséidon, le seigneur de la mer et c'était là que tous les marins offraient un dernier sacrifice pour apaiser le dieu Poséidon avant de quitter la sécurité du golf Saronique. Selon la mythologie grecque, le cap Sounion était le point à partir duquel le roi grec Égée s'est jeté de la falaise à sa mort, sur la croyance erronée que son fils était mort. Cette histoire tragique ancienne implique un thème qui est encore utilisé dans la narration moderne aujourd'hui.
Sur le chemin du retour à Athènes, le visiteur appréciera la cuisine traditionnelle grecque dans une taverne locale avec vue sur la mer.

Sounion such a beautiful place and so nice to have a nice van and wonderful driver to get us out there and even some great secret spots for great photos along the way. topped off with a private dinner at a local restaurant on way back. Excellent time for the family!

Timing the crowd is key. Jimmy adjusted our trip to put us there ahead of the “sunset” bus tours, and it made an enormous difference. We had no line going in and passed a huge line going out.

The drive along the coast was beautiful! We had a delicious dinner of Greek salad, fish, and shrimp. Highlight was sunset and our driver, Panos. He was amazing and so nice. We learned so much about Greece. Wonderful time!

Basically just a car service to Cape Sounion. I booked for 4pm which I guess was too early? So we had to stop for dinner at 5 on the way not on the way back, as advertised. The sunset at the Temple of Poseidon was at 8:24 pm. So we didn’t need to get there until 7:30. Not sure why we weren’t told that. The dinner spot was fine. Great people and the food was good, but not a place I would have chosen on my own. There were other seemingly more interesting places in the area. Our driver was nice, but quiet. We didn’t expect a tour guide, but some of the other reviews mention drivers who were talkative and informative. Overall definitely worth going to Cape Sounion and the temple of Poseidon. That said, this was just hiring a driver to get there. Not sure we needed to spend 500 to do that and then an addition 300+ for dinner at 5pm.

A relaxing and beautiful drive along to coast to a few surprise stops and then the Temple of Poseidon. We never got to dinner because I was feeling unwell, but our wonderful driver Tragadis Theofilos, Theo, stopped for the most amazing ice cream on the way back. Theo was a pleasant host and driver, taught us about the history of area and described the beautify of the country beyond Athens...it made us want to come back and explore more of Greece.
