Apprenez les faits inattendus sur le plus ancien parc public des États-Unis (1634). Le parc fait partie du Collier Emeraude – ce ruban vert est formé de 6 parcs. On s’arrêtera sur Telegraph Hill – la colline historique qui est associée à la fondation de la ville. Le parc a été le témoin de grands moments de l’histoire américaine. Il abrite plusieurs monuments comme le Boston Massacre Memorial, le Great Elm Tree, le Soldiers and Sailors Monument. C'est ici que commence le fameux Freedom Trail de Boston.
Un bas-relief en bronze – une grande œuvre d’art exécutée par le sculpteur Augustus Saint-Gaudens.
C'est un véritable bijou architectural. Construit à la fin du 18ᵉ siècle par l’architecte américain Bullfinch, ce bâtiment au dôme doré, en style fédéral, domine la colline de Beacon Hill.
Old City Hall 1865, un beau bâtiment de style Second Empire français (style Napoleon III, comme l'opéra Garnier à Paris). L'ancien hôtel de ville de Boston a accueilli son conseil municipal de 1865 à 1969.
Old Corner Bookstore (Librairie de l'ancien coin), construit en 1718, le Old Corner Bookstore se trouve dans le plus ancien immeuble commercial du centre-ville de Boston. Cette maison d’édition du 19ᵉ siècle a publié de multiples célèbres classiques américains.
Construite en 1729, cette ancienne église puritaine a été un lieu de rassemblement pendant près de trois siècles.
Old State House (Ancienne Maison d'État), 1713, entouré des édifices modernes, semble figé dans le temps. Le 18 juillet 1776, le texte de la Déclaration d'indépendance des États-Unis a été lu depuis ce balcon.
C'est devant ce bâtiment public, qu'un escadron de l'armée britannique a ouvert le feu et a tué cinq Bostoniens en 1770. On a nommé cet incident le massacre de Boston.
1741 : Le berceau de la liberté, un beau bâtiment historique avec une girouette dorée en forme d'énorme sauterelle. Cette sauterelle est devenue le premier et le plus célèbre symbole de Boston.
Quincy Market, 1824, un ancien marché, aujourd’hui un Food court, une allée remplie de stands et de boutiques, un véritable bijou architectural.
Le plus ancien restaurant des États-Unis (1826) situé dans un bâtiment historique (1704). Le futur roi de France, Louis-Philippe, habitait cette maison dans un modeste appartement au deuxième étage.
Derrière l’hôtel Bostonien, il y a plusieurs ruelles anciennes piétonnes. Blackstone block est sur la liste nationale des lieux historiques.
Le North End, littéralement le quartier nord, est l’un des quartiers les plus anciens de Boston.
La maison de Paul Revere, 1676 – l’un des derniers vestiges de l’époque coloniale. Le célèbre révolutionnaire y a vécu dans les années 1780 à 1800.
L'espace historique réservé aux piétons honorant le célèbre Midnight Ride (1775)
La première église du North End a été construite sur ce site en 1650. Tout au long de la période coloniale, c'était l'église la plus influente du nord-est et un bastion de la foi puritaine.
Copp’s Hill, érigée en 1632, est le point culminant du quartier nord de Boston. Au sommet de cette colline se trouve un ancien cimetière datant de 1659. De la terrasse de Copp's Hill, vous pourrez admirer un magnifique panorama de la rivière Charles, ainsi que l’obélisque de Bunker Hill et le navire USS Constitution sur la rive opposée.
This guided tour was great… Maria walked us along Boston's Freedom Trail with a small group of French people, all equipped with earpieces allowing us to follow her even from a distance while listening to all her commentary on the different sites, but especially on the entire history of Boston. A beautiful 2.5-hour walk through this beautiful city at a pleasant pace to enjoy the sites. Do not hesitate if you wish to discover Boston along this path crossing the city…

At each stop on the trail, we leave with a new nugget in mind. And icing on the cake: everything happens in French, which is rare and precious in Boston. It is a real comfort to be able to grasp everything in nuances, ask questions and exchange freely. Whether you are visiting Boston or have lived there for years, this visit with Maria is an experience not to be missed. I warmly recommend it to all Francophones curious about history. Maria knows Boston at her fingertips and knows how to interest everyone. I myself was with high school students, they learned a lot and appreciated Maria’s informed comments. An incredible walk along the path to freedom and through the picturesque neighborhoods of Beacon Hill and Back Bay. She knows how to show you secret places and transports us into the rich 17th century history of Boston. I highly recommend it.
