Our guide Shaheed was born and raised in Woodstock over 50 years ago, when racial segregation still existed. He experienced all the changes in the neighborhood first hand and shared the stories and contexts with a lot of dedication and great kindness. He is deeply rooted in Woodstock and personally knows the local and international artists who have designed many walls with their murals and graffiti. During the tour, he not only showed us street art, but also explained the respective thematic context and the relation to the buildings and the people in them. Highly recommended! P.S. In Cape Town meet very rich and very poor. We felt safe with him at all times in the lively creative scene and out in the streets.
The street art tour was a really good experience to see another side of Cape Town. The suburb Woodstock is very special and you really recognize the power of art here. But I would recommend always to take a local tour guide to see and take pictures of all the beautiful mural because you get context for them and it is not a good idea to make a walk through on you own because of the circumstances there. I hat a really kind female guide which was a pleasure to talk and discuss about art. Forgot the name, but if you this review: Thank you very much for the artful quality time.
Wonderful art! Not a place we would’ve found without the tour guide. But, the neighborhood is a bit rough.
Nice tour through Woodstock., a neighborhood you don't easily walk through yourself. Nice guide, nice to hear the story behind the street art! Length of the tour was just right (90 min)
Thank you for sharing with us such an amazing experience
Beautiful colored houses, in yellow, pink, green, pink.....small galleries and pubs. You can take very nice photos.
My husband and I had a tour already scheduled in the morning with the District Six museum and I wanted to book a street art tour with Juma. When I inquired, he called me to work with me on a private tour and schedule. When he learned we had already booked District Six he suggested we also do a Langa township tour to see where the people were relocated to. I was wary because I did not want to be disrespectful of people but Juma reassured me it would not be. Well, I am so glad we did the tour with Juma - he picked us up, he brought us to our District Six tour, then then picked us up after our tour and took us on the street art tour which was absolutely amazing! He told us about his life and family (we even met 2 of his lovely daughters!) which was very moving. He then brought us to Langa which I highly recommend - I did not know there was so much in a township and it was a true pleasure to meet people and support them. We even got to have some braii! Then after, we stopped for a traditional meal of pop and chicken with greens which we ate outside on wooden tables. It was such an authentic experience that I will never forget. Juma is fabulous and you will be happy if you book a tour with him I promise!
Thank you so much it was such a great pleasure meeting you both and sharing together an amazing experience, I really enjoyed every moment and stories we shared this will stay in our hearts forever . Until we meet again Juma
We are so glad we did this tour! Our guide, Shamila, was knowledgeable and wove together a story of the recent art history in Woodstock. We saw some amazing murals, street art, and current artists' working spaces. Art is alive and well in Woodstock and I highly recommend this tour.
Such a great experience and the guide was so wonderful. I learned so much and saw so much. Highly recommend.
Do not do this activity. You do not get anything listed on the description and the refund process for a not good experience was very poor.
Thank you.
Very knowledgeable local guide; beautiful murals, graffiti and installations to see with interesting stories. Probably wouldn’t have encountered these without the guide. Enjoyed the coffee stop, and found the experience worth it
