Very knowledgeable and friendly He was very interesting and was able to get back to the subject even after we kept asking questions
Jonathan is by far the best tour guide I've had in Charleston. His depth of knowledge from all different eras of Charleston History is second to none. I'm an architectural historian and this guy knows his stuff. Not to mention he's got a great sense of humor. I'd absolutely recommend him for families or corporate tours.
We had the pleasure of going on a tour with Jonathon. With a mix of ages and a large group, everyone had an unforgettable experience. Jonathon is incredibly educated and shares a wealth of knowledge on many topics and kept all of us engaged and laughing. It was truly a treat and can’t wait to visit and book another tour.
Thank you for the kind review! It was a pleasure to have you on tour and we can't wait for you to return to Charleston!
As a pastor, father, and proud descendent of those who endured the unimaginable, this tour was more than a historical lesson, it was a spiritual journey. Guided by John Jackson, we didn’t just walk through Charleston’s streets; we walked through centuries of pain, perseverance, and purpose. From the Charleston City Market to Mother Emanuel AME, Brother Jackson brought the past to life with a reverence that touched my entire family. He didn’t sugarcoat the truth, but he delivered it with grace, depth, and profound respect for our ancestors. His words were not just educational—they were pastoral, poetic, and prophetic. At the Old Slave Mart, I had to hold back tears thinking about children separated from their mothers, and yet somehow still holding on to hope. At St. Philip’s, we were reminded of how the gospel was weaponized to oppress, but also reclaimed to liberate. And when we stood outside Emanuel AME, we felt the weight of both historical and modern-day martyrdom. John created space for silence, for prayer, for reflection. He made sure my children not only understood the facts but also felt the heartbeat of our history. It was a walk we’ll never forget—and a lesson in faith, dignity, and resilience that will stay with us forever. If you come to Charleston and you care about truth and legacy, do not leave without taking this tour. And if you’re blessed enough to have John Jackson lead it—listen closely. You’re walking sacred ground.
Thank you Reverend, It was a honor to show you around Charleston and I am thrilled you found it so moving!
Wow! Jonathan is the most knowledgeable and hilarious person! As a native Charlestonian, his love and passion for the city are apparent! This was our first time ever doing a guided tour, and we had a big group of family and friends. Jonathan moved the tour at our pace (mix of mobility among the folks with us), and made sure we had an incredible experience! He even recommended the best coffee shops and restaurants. What a GEM! Can’t wait to go back and book another tour with Jonathan and See Charleston Tours!
