Enjoyable tea and tour

The National Gallery tour was very informative and enjoyable, but the highlight of this experience was the tea at Ochre. It was a beautiful environment, the service was excellent, the food outstanding. It was very relaxing. I have been to other teas in London and they did not compare to this one.

Tour and afternoon tea

Our visit started with a one hour highlights tour within the Sainsbury Wing and were issued with audio guides by the knowledgeable Spanish guide - unfortunately I have small ear canals and frustratingly the earbud kept falling loose. However, it was still easier to hear the guide through this medium than her trying to talk over the hordes of visitors. Tour lasted an hour and covered around 10 famous paintings in detail, including insights into both paintings and artists about which I wasn’t aware. We then moved on to the Ocre restaurant for afternoon tea (separate review). This taster experience whetted our appetite for a longer return visit in the future.

Sadly no for us!

Communication between Viator and the operator is nonexistent. The museum tour was wonderful but there was no booking at the restaurant for the afternoon tea. I showed the restaurant manager my ticket and receipt that clearly included the tea. However, he said that Viator had sent no payment nor was there a booking for us. We were so disappointed. I would like to request a refund.

Great way to visit the National Gallery’s highlights.

We were given a headset & ear phones to hear our guide Katherine who was so knowledgeable & engaging throughout the tour. We saw all the ‘must see’ paintings yet finished the hour’s tour refreshed. I would thoroughly recommend it. The Ochre restaurant was calm & cool on a hot day. Delicious cream tea.

A wonderful place to visit.

Visiting the National Gallery was an incredible experience, not just because of the world-renowned artwork but because of the overall atmosphere. The moment I stepped inside, I was surrounded by a sense of history, creativity, and elegance that made the entire visit feel truly special. The gallery’s grand architecture, with its high ceilings and beautifully lit rooms, created a calm and inspiring environment. Each room had its own unique charm, allowing me to fully immerse myself in the masterpieces on display. Despite the number of visitors, the space felt peaceful, making it easy to appreciate the details and emotions captured in each painting. What I loved most was how the atmosphere enhanced my connection to the art. Whether standing in front of a Van Gogh or a Turner, the quiet and reflective setting made each piece feel even more powerful. The blend of history, culture, and serenity made my visit truly unforgettable. For anyone who loves art or simply enjoys being in a beautifully curated space, the National Gallery is a must-visit. It’s not just a museum—it’s an experience. Rating: 5/5

What happen to my tour?

Tour operator did not show up. Tried tenting the operator but no response. I will be asking for a refund when I get back from vacation.

enjoy it

My visit to the British National Gallery was nothing short of breathtaking. As soon as I entered the grand halls, I was greeted by an array of masterpieces that seemed to whisper stories from centuries past. The gallery boasts an impressive collection of over 2,300 artworks spanning from the 13th to the 20th century. The layout of the gallery is thoughtfully designed, allowing visitors to traverse through different artistic periods seamlessly. The early Renaissance works in the blue section captivated me with their intricate details and fresh perspectives. As I moved to the purple section, housing the High Renaissance Italian paintings, I found myself face to face with some of the greatest minds in art history. Renting an audio guide for 5 pounds was an absolute must. It provided in-depth insights into each piece, enhancing my appreciation for the artistry and history behind them. Highlights for me included Van Gogh's "Sunflowers," Monet's "Water Lilies," and Leonardo da Vinci's "The Rocky Virgin." The gallery also offers a cafe where one can take a break, sip on coffee, and reflect on the beauty they've witnessed. The National Gallery is a must-visit for anyone passionate about Western art. It's a testament to human creativity and a reminder of the enduring power of art across generations.I bought a railcard on trainpal and got a 20% discount when I entered the RC777E code! Hope to help those who come to the UK to play~

DO NOT BOOK THIS TOUR OF NATIONAL GALLERY‼️

This tour stated 20 minutes late. Our instructions from Viator were to meet “at the National Gallery.” It was a mob scene when we got there. I called the “tour operator’s” number twice and got voicemail. I left 2 messages, no reply. My husband finally went inside to the info counter and found “Lucy” the guide in a nearby corridor. Lucy was excellent on the art history but baffled as to why it was so hard for us to find her. We saw 8 paintings and she abruptly ended the gallery tour after 45 minutes. We asked about the “afternoon tea” the tour had promised and Lucy said it’s “downstairs at the cafe.” After asking at three cafes, we found the afternoon tea restaurant, which they begrudgingly served when we showed them the Viator ticket. It was all vague and loosy-goosy. With some better communication and timeliness, this could have been a lovely afternoon. Instead, it was nothing but a big letdown.
