La grande pyramide de Gizeh est la plus ancienne pyramide de Gizeh plateu et la plus grande pyramide, construite pour le pharaon Khufu vers 2580 av. Il mesurait à l'origine 146 mètres de haut et était fait d'environ 2,3 millions de blocs de calcaire. Il a servi de tombeau royal à Khufu et est la seule merveille survivante des sept merveilles du monde antique.
La deuxième pyramide de Gizeh, également connue sous le nom de pyramide de Khafre, a été construite pour le roi Khafre, le fils de Khufu. Il se dresse légèrement plus petit que la Grande Pyramide mais semble plus haut parce qu'il est construit sur des hauteurs plus élevées et conserve encore certaines de ses pierres de cuvelage lisses d'origine au sommet.
La plus petite pyramide de Gizeh est la pyramide de Menkaure, construite pour le roi Menkaure, le petit-fils de Khufu. Il est d'environ 65 mètres de haut, beaucoup plus petit que les pyramides de Khufu et Khafre, mais unique parce que sa partie inférieure a été construite en utilisant du granit rouge, ce qui lui donne un aspect distinctif. À côté de lui se trouvent trois petites « pyramides de la reine ». Même s’il est le plus petit, il fait preuve d’un savoir-faire artisanal et est une partie importante du complexe pyramidal de Gizeh.
La vue panoramique sur le plateau de Gizeh est un endroit célèbre où les visiteurs peuvent voir les trois pyramides de Khufu, Khafre et Menkaure ensemble sur une seule ligne. De ce point de vue, les touristes peuvent capturer les meilleures photos de tout le complexe pyramidal, avec le désert qui s'étend en arrière-plan. C'est l'un des points forts de toute visite à Gizeh car il donne une image complète de la majesté de l'Égypte antique en un seul cadre. Le Grand Sphinx de Gizeh est une statue massive en calcaire avec le corps d'un lion et la tête du roi Khafre. Il mesure environ 73 mètres de long et 20 mètres de haut, ce qui en fait la plus grande et la plus ancienne sculpture monumentale connue au monde. Le Sphinx a été construit pour garder les pyramides et symboliser la force, la sagesse et la protection. Il se trouve juste à côté de la pyramide de Khafré et du temple de la Vallée, créant l'une des scènes les plus emblématiques de l'Égypte antique.

This was a super experience! Our driver and our guide were excellent. Our guide Ahmed was so fun, creative with pictures and had a great sense of humor. His knowledge of Egypt and the Pyramids and Sphinx made this an experience to remember. Ibrahim his driver was excellent in picking us up and getting us to the Pyramids and back to the hotel. My wife and I would recommend using Ahmed & Ibrahim again the next time we come to Egypt.
