Embarquez pour une visite à pied facile des collines depuis le centre de Vérone et découvrez la beauté époustouflante de cette ville historique. En partant de l'emblématique pont médiéval de Ponte Pietra, vous monterez jusqu'au château de San Pietro, en profitant d'une vue imprenable sur Vérone en cours de route. Vous passerez devant le Théâtre Antique face à la rivière et le funiculaire construit en 1939. En explorant les ruines cachées de Re Teodorico et en marchant le long des anciens murs qui protégeaient autrefois la ville, vous atteindrez le paisible couvent Don Calabria. L'atmosphère sera un mélange de champs d'herbe, de murs anciens, de tours et d'oliviers dans les collines voisines de la ville. En continuant, vous serez récompensé par une vue panoramique incroyable sur le luxuriant Giardino Giusti avec une architecture Renaissance, des statues, des terrasses et des fontaines datant du XVIe siècle. Terminer la visite en passant par l'architecture militaire réalisée par les Autrichiens et les étonnantes arches de l'église San Giovanni in Valle.

En partant de l'emblématique Ponte Pietra, vous vous dirigerez vers Castel San Pietro, en admirant une vue imprenable sur Vérone en cours de route.
Passer devant cette église unique et s'arrêter dans un jardin caché à proximité, uniquement s'il est ouvert.
En continuant, vous serez récompensé par une incroyable vue panoramique sur les toits de la ville et le luxuriant Giardino Giusti. Ce jardin historique est un véritable joyau de Vérone, avec une architecture Renaissance époustouflante, des jardins méticuleusement entretenus et des fontaines datant du XVIe siècle.
En passant par les grands murs de Vérone, superposés par différents royaumes qui ont gouverné la ville.
En montant plus haut, vous passerez devant l'impressionnant Castel San Pietro et le caché derrière Re Teodorico, une forteresse médiévale avec une histoire riche.
En longeant les anciennes murailles qui protégeaient autrefois la ville, vous atteindrez le paisible couvent de Don Calabria, où vous pourrez prendre un moment pour reprendre votre souffle et admirer le cadre paisible.
En chemin, nous passerons devant le théâtre romain, toujours en activité. Vivez une vue splendide comme un spectateur de théâtre. Nous nous arrêterons pour prendre des photos.

We greatly enjoyed this walk, which was away from the crowds of the city center but afforded amazing views of beautiful Verona. Giovanni was full of information and wit, and we enjoyed his company. Be sure you are comfortable climbing steps (on a hot day, if it's that time of year), but know that you will be rewarded with views, quiet, and interaction with a part of Verona not everyone sees. Also be aware that there may be mixed messages at the meeting place (on the bridge vs. by a cafe very nearby) - we had that, but Giovanni phoned everyone to make sure we found each other. We'd booked a guided walking tour around the Verona hillside and the only availability was 12:45 on our day of arrival so it was lucky everything had gone smoothly with our flight. Communication with Slow Travel was fabulous and everything worked perfectly. The city was beautiful, everywhere we looked had wonderful architecture and detail that just made it a joy to walk around. We had a quick diversion to the Piazza dell Erbe as it looked stunning - a wonderful marble fountain in a large square surrounded by medieval buildings with exterior fresco decorations. We later discovered from our guide, Leo, that the town was famous for these frescoes on lots of buildings but almost all were destroyed by the French during Napoleon's occupation of the city. We then crossed the Roman and medieval bridge of Ponte Pietra, repaired after being blown up by the Germans to stop the Allied advance in 1945, to start our walking tour. We met Leo and started our walk up the hillside, past the excavated Roman theatre and to the Castle of St Peter, which is actually a 19th century palace. We took in the views over the city, looking stunning in the winter sunlight, before walking past the remains of the original medieval fortress that is sadly neglected now. The pathway was wonderfully quiet and followed the line of the old city walls that were a mix of medieval crenellated brick walls and Austro Hungarian 19th century bastions before we reached the Monastery of San Zeno, home to the largest ecclesiastic library outside of the Vatican. We saw a shrine to the Madonna there and a lovely cloister before making our way down the hill and walking along the river back to the Ponte Pietra where we finished our tour. Leo was a fabulous guide with excellent English as well as being very knowledgeable, patient and good company. The tour was a gentle walk around the hills overlooking the city and partially following the line of the old city walls. There were incredible views and we gained a new understanding and appreciation of the history and architecture of the city. Highly recommended.

We had some time to kill before our flight home. This was a great, short, morning walking tour of the Verona hillside. We met our guide, Leonardo at the Ponte Pietra and made our way right up to the top of the hill. Leonardi was full of information & pointed out various points of interest & information, roman ruins & places of worship. The views from the top are definitely worth the hike up. It was a hot morning, bring water but there are water points up the hillside.

Our guide was extremely knowledgeable and answered all our questions; our questions exceeded the topic of the tour. Be prepared to get your steps in! & being a water bottle. Once on top, the views of the city from multiple sides are incredible.

I found this tour super interesting, you see places in Verona that are not typical and that are better than some typical that we go all over the world and that are not worth it. It is also very entertaining because you are accompanied by Leonardo, who was a great guide. Great views along the tour, good company and visit unusual places that are pearls to discover. Highly recommended!
