This was easily one of the highlights of our time in Italy. Unfortunately, my partner and I cannot remember our guide’s name (she had short red hair—hopefully someone can identify her!), but she was absolutely incredible and deserves every bit of recognition. She was funny, incredibly knowledgeable, interactive, and so clearly loved being a guide. Rather than simply walking us from one location to another and reciting facts, she made a concerted effort to involve the entire group in what we were seeing. She asked us questions, encouraged us to think about how people actually lived here, and made thousands of years of history feel accessible, personal, and surprisingly relatable. Watching her navigate Pompeii was also impressive in itself. She moved through the ancient city like it was her personal office! She knew exactly where she wanted to take us, how to navigate around other groups, and which places and details were worth stopping for. We saw so many fascinating parts of the city that I don’t think we would have understood, or even noticed, if we had explored Pompeii by ourselves. What really stood out was her ability to make the people who lived in Pompeii feel like actual people, rather than distant historical figures. By the end, we weren’t just looking at ruins. We were looking at homes, businesses, streets, artwork, and little pieces of everyday life and understanding the people who once used them. Pompeii is extraordinary on its own, but having a guide who can give those ruins context completely changes the experience. Her humor, enthusiasm, knowledge, and obvious love for what she does made this tour incredibly memorable for both of us. If anyone from the tour company happens to read this: please give the wonderful short-haired redhead our thanks! She gave us an experience we will remember for a very long time. Absolutely five stars and a tour we would recommend without hesitation.

Our guide was absolutely fantastic. Have been here twice before and still learned much more than we knew before. Would highly recommend this to anyone wanting to experience the real Pompeii.

It can get hot and there is not a lot of shade. Wear a hat or bring an umbrella in the summertime. Also apply good sunscreen.

Our private tour of Pompeii with Italo was absolutely fantastic and easily one of the highlights of our trip to Italy. He gave us a real sense of what everyday life was like in Pompeii nearly 2,000 years ago. We were traveling with our kids, and Italo was wonderful with them. He kept them interested and involved, answered all of their questions, and knew exactly when to add some humor. He was incredibly kind, personable, and patient with our entire family. Having a private guide also made a huge difference. In just two hours, we saw an amazing amount without ever feeling rushed, and Italo knew exactly where to take us and what details we would have completely missed on our own. If you’re visiting Pompeii, ask for Italo. He turned an extraordinary historical site into an experience our whole family will remember. Five stars without hesitation!
