Il s'agit d'un magnifique et vibrant temple hindou (ou Kovil) dédié au Seigneur Ganesha, la divinité à tête d'éléphant vénérée comme le Levant des Obstacles et le Dieu de la Sagesse. Architecture : Il présente un gopuram (tour d'entrée) de style dravidien d'une couleur saisissante orné de sculptures complexes et de statues de divers dieux et déesses hindous. Signification : Il sert de lieu de culte vital pour la communauté hindoue locale, reflétant le riche patrimoine multireligieux de Negombo. L'expérience : Les visiteurs peuvent entrer à l'intérieur pour découvrir l'atmosphère sereine et spirituelle, admirer les œuvres d'art détaillées et assister aux rituels quotidiens impliquant des fleurs, de l'encens et des lampes.
⛪ Église Sainte-Marie (Maha Veediya Palliya) Negombo est connue sous le nom de "Petite Rome", et cette église majestueuse est la pièce maîtresse de cette réputation. C'est l'une des plus grandes cathédrales du Sri Lanka et un beau mélange de style néoclassique européen avec l'art sri-lankais. Architecture : Construite entre 1874 et 1922, l'église présente une façade grandiose et imposante et des colonnes massives. Le point fort de l'intérieur : La caractéristique la plus célèbre est le plafond à couper le souffle, qui est couvert de fresques vibrantes et de peintures représentant la vie du Christ et de divers saints. Ce qui rend cet art vraiment unique, c'est que le travail au plafond a été réalisé par un peintre bouddhiste local, N.S. Godamanne, mettant en valeur l'harmonie culturelle du Sri Lanka. Marché aux poissons de Negombo et champs de poissons secs Le marché aux poissons de Negombo, connu localement sous le nom de Lellama, est une tranche chaotique, colorée et authentique de la vie locale. C’est l’un des marchés aux poissons les plus grands et les plus dynamiques de l’île. Le marché : Visite idéale tôt le matin (vers 6h00) pour voir les pêcheurs décharger leurs prises fraîches de thon, crabe, crevettes et divers poissons de récif. C'est un spectacle vibrant, bruyant et animé qui offre un aperçu brut de l'économie de la pêche du Sri Lanka. Les champs de poissons secs : Juste au-delà du marché humide se trouve la zone ensoleillée où de vastes étendues des prises du jour — en particulier les petits poissons et les gros morceaux coupés — sont disposées pour sécher à l'air libre, une méthode de conservation traditionnelle. Ce champ crée un arôme puissant et unique et est un spectacle visuellement frappant contre le ciel bleu et le sable. Cette zone met en valeur le cœur de l'identité de Negombo en tant que ville de pêche côtière classique.
Negombo Néerlandais Fort (vieux fort) Le fort Néerlandais Negombo est un site historique qui marque le rôle de la ville dans l'histoire coloniale du Sri Lanka, ayant été un comptoir commercial clé pour la cannelle et les épices. Historique : Initialement établie par les Portugais, elle a ensuite été capturée et reconstruite par les Néerlandais au XVIIe siècle. État actuel : Contrairement au fort tentaculaire de Galle, une grande partie de la structure originale de Negombo a été démantelée par les Britanniques à la fin du 19ème siècle pour construire la prison voisine. Aujourd'hui, les visiteurs peuvent voir la passerelle principale préservée et quelques sections du mur. Signification : Bien qu'il n'en reste que des vestiges, le site offre un aperçu de l'architecture de l'époque coloniale et de l'importance stratégique de la situation côtière de Negombo.
Le canal Néerlandais à Negombo, officiellement connu sous le nom de canal Hamilton, est une voie navigable historique fascinante qui sert de lien vivant avec le passé colonial du Sri Lanka et la communauté locale de pêcheurs. Le canal s'étend sur environ 14,5 kilomètres (9 miles), reliant Puttalam à Colombo, et il passe juste à travers Negombo, où il se connecte avec la lagune de Negombo.
Le temple Angurukaramulla, officiellement connu sous le nom de Bodhirajaramaya, est l'un des sites bouddhistes les plus renommés et les plus importants historiquement de Negombo. Il est célébré pour son architecture incroyablement colorée et ornée, en particulier ses peintures murales et sculptures élaborées.

Soyez à l'extérieur et bien visible au moment de la prise en charge; n'attendez pas dans le hall, car le conducteur ne peut généralement pas quitter le véhicule pour vous chercher.

Absolutely brilliant tour guide, very knowledgeable and polite. Provided ice cold water for free. Took us to some stunning churches and temples, and to the famous fish market ( be prepared for strong smells, luckily I'm from Grimsby so the smell of fish didn't bother me). The tour guide didn't pressure us or take us to anywhere we didn't want to go and even offered to take us to an ATM and a supermarket to buy rice (as my phone succumbed to the 95% humidity so needed drying out). Great value for money definitely recommended and will use again.

Beautiful tour around Negombo with very friendly driver . We visited a church. A Hindu temple and a Buddhist Tempel as well as the fish market, the Saturday market , Dutch Fort and the dry fish area.
