Great tour of a beautiful area of Scotland

I had a wonderful time on this tour with Chris and Maggie (hope I remember your name correctly!). Chris is well informed and enthusiastic about the history of the area. He walked with us and pointed out items of interest. We also had time to explore on our own and had plenty of time to see major points of interest as well as the museum in Kilmartin. I highly recommend this tour to anyone interested in beautiful scenery and the history of ancient history. It is a truly remarkable area.

Wonderful day exploring Kilmartin Glen with Colin and Kieran

My dad and I had a wonderful and fun day on the Kilmartin Glen tour with Colin, Kieran and our fellow travellers. The drive up to Dunadd Fort and Kilmartin Glen was very picturesque with lovely photo stops on way, and we had plenty of time to explore the fort, standing stones, museum + the rock carvings at Achnabreck. On the way back, we had a break in Inveraray, which is always a treat (we’re tour veterans by now!). Lots of laughs on the bus, so I’m sure we’ll have fond memories of this day for a long time to come. Would happily book with Discover Scotland again. P.S.: don’t forget to look up the Claudia Winkleman gravy granules story, Kieran ;-)

I didn’t understand this...

I didn’t understand this was a walking tour after getting to the location by bus. The area is beautiful and all the history is wonderful but I wasn’t in the frame of mind to walk miles for all the standing stones and cairns. I wish the description would have had more information about this. Our guide, Gary, was wonderful and gave us options about all the walking. He was more than willing to come along with us as we were the only two on the tour. Absolute legend of a guide and would love to go on another tour with him again.

Chris's whistlestop history of ancient Scotland - fab!

What atmospheric insights into Scottish history we had on this tour - a wonderful tour of ancient sites with my favourite being Dunadd Fort where Kings were crowned! The Kilmartin Museum provided an excellent summary of the local history and well worth a visit. Our Guide Chris was exactly as the website claimed: "More than just drivers, they’re storytellers, historians, jokers, and lifelong locals who know every loch, glen, castle, and quirky backroad like the back of their hand. They’ll regale you with tales of ancient clans, mythical creatures, unsung heroes, and notorious villains." More than that Chris adjusted our tour as roads were closed but still managed to fit the whole experience in without hitch, whilst accommodating the interests of my party and our fellow travellers. As a local with a fair bit of knowledge of Scottish history he provided me with lots of links and resources to broaden that knowledge and provided answers to all the questions we had. (Tip: the museum café is closed on a Tuesday but the Kilmartin Hotel across the road had good grub). I highly recommend this tour.

Dunadd and Kilmartin Glen

Excellent day trip to Dunadd Fort and Kilmartin Glen with my Mum and friend. Dave, our designated driver and most gracious host, was entertaining, engaging, and always had a story to share. He was also very considerate to my Mum, who praised him after the trip. The tour itself was amazing, and more people should sign up for it. However, please note that Dunadd Fort is a steep climb and slippery when wet. The final activity at the end, Achnabreac Forest, can be a pain if muddy but well worth the climb if history is your thing. In conclusion, this is an amazing tour and Discover Scotland were impeccable in their planning. Thanks again to Dave!

Walk in the steps of kings

I was thrilled to find a company that did a tour to this hidden gem in Scotland. We got to all the major sites of Kilmartin Glen, an extraordinary feat in a day. From iron age Dunadd fort where kings were crowned to ancient carved rocks, cairns, standing stones. Kilmartin has the fabulous museum and church. With stops at Inverary, the Rest and Be Thankful and Loch Lomond, this is ancient Scotland in a nutshell in a day. The bus was very comfy, the driver, John, the best!
