La Riviera del Brenta, célèbre voie navigable entre Padoue et Venise, est une zone panoramique d'intérêt historique, naturel, artistique et culturel. Prolongement naturel du Grand Canal, il est bordé de pittoresques villages vénitiens et entouré d'un paysage agricole. La Riviera del Brenta a fasciné de nombreuses personnalités à travers les âges : Casanova, Galileo Galilei, Byron, Montesquieu et D'Annunzio l'ont visitée, Canaletto, Cimaroli et Tiepolo l'ont peinte et elle a été louée dans les chefs-d'œuvre de Goldoni et de Goethe. Les familles royales française et russe, les Habsbourg, les Savoie et même Napoléon y ont séjourné, et la noblesse vénitienne l'a choisi pour y installer ses villas vénitiennes. Les Vénitiens y ont construit de magnifiques résidences, entourées de jardins monumentaux, décorées de fresques et conçues par les plus grands artistes de l'époque tels que Palladio, Titien et Tintoret.

La Villa Pisani in Stra est une villa vénitienne de style baroque tardif située le long du canal de Brenta (Riviera del Brenta), près de la ville de Stra, à quelques kilomètres de Venise. La Villa Pisani est la villa la plus imposante, la plus grande et la plus visitée de la Riviera.Il a été construit sur un bâtiment existant pour célébrer la gloire de la famille Pisani, en particulier lorsque Alvise Pisani a été élu doge en 1735. Après la fin de la Sérénissime, il est devenu la propriété de Napoléon et, en 1814, les Autrichiens s'en sont emparés. Lorsque Venise a rejoint le Royaume d'Italie en 1866, Victor Emmanuel II y a séjourné pendant une courte période et, deux ans plus tard, le bâtiment est devenu propriété de l'État. Depuis la fin des années 1800, c'est un musée national. D'innombrables invités et visiteurs importants sont venus de toute l'Europe : le tsar Alexandre Ier de Russie, Gustave de Suède, Marie-Louise de Parme et bien d'autres encore. En 1934, Hitler et Mussolini s'y sont rencontrés.

We traveled by car in a small group and got to experience the Italian villas between Siena and Venice. Chiara explained to us the history of the families and why there was such a big difference between the different villas. We loved seeing the beautiful gardens as well as the splendidly decorated interiors. She let us visit at our own pace, and a gentleman in our group bought everyone coffee to enjoy on the terrace. It is a side of Italy we wouldn’t have gotten to see—much recommended!

This tour let us experience how the other half lived in Venice's hayday! we were looking for an out of town trip that let us experience the countryside without driving all day. our guide Camilla met us near our apartment in Padova and we enjoyed the experience with a small group (only two others). We stopped first at a beautiful villa about 20 minutes from Padova to see how Venetian nobles lived. The exhibits were well organized and the villa even had a nice coffee shop (Camilla was kind to treat as she was a few minutes late in meeting us as the initial group was late meeting her). The second villa was more like Versaille palace, magnificent enough that mebers of Napoleon's family lived there. Yet at the smae time, hardly anyone was there! really great to see such a wonderful site without being surrouded by other tourists) The countryside was beautiful and the tour was very enjoyable. With the agreement of the other two, Camilla was happy to add an unscheduled stop in a small village where we had a delicious sushi lunch. Camilla is a good diver and is very knowledgeable about the tour sites.

We spent a wonderful day. The tour starts with a drive from Padua along the green banks of the Brenta river. The two stops include Villa Pisani and Villa Widmann, with enough time to visit the gardens. The guide is a great storyteller and has a captivating way to present paintings. The little extra was to do this as a private tour - we were only two and had the chance to visit at our own pace.
