Située à seulement 25 minutes de la Nouvelle-Orléans et à 10 minutes de l'aéroport international de la Nouvelle-Orléans, la plantation Destrehan est la plus ancienne plantation documentée de la basse vallée du Mississippi. C'est également la seule plantation accessible en covoiturage ou en taxi. Nos visites sont riches en histoire politique, sociale et économique. Après la visite, les invités peuvent assister à une démonstration de la vie populaire, visiter notre exposition sur la révolte des esclaves de 1811, explorer le domaine, pique-niquer sous un chêne vivant drapé de mousse espagnole et acheter dans notre magasin de plantation des articles uniques fabriqués à la main par des artisans locaux. Nous sommes accessibles aux personnes handicapées et adaptés aux enfants !

Itinéraire
Nos interprètes historiques en costume vous éclaireront sur l'histoire de ceux qui vivaient dans la plantation libre et asservie. Après les invités peuvent assister à une démonstration de la vie populaire et explorer leurs terres et bâtiments de dépendance, notamment une cabine d'esclaves avec un registre d'esclaves, une cabine de surveillant mettant en valeur l'exposition 1811 Slave Revolt, une cuisine extérieure, des toilettes, une cabine de trappeur et notre salle Legacy affichant des documents originaux et des artefacts des membres de la famille.

A very interesting, thorough, and well organized tour. Our tour guide Brenda was very knowledgeable. I thought it was a good combination of guided tour and ability to roam yourself through the outer buildings. I've toured many plantations in Virginia as that's where my family's from. I really enjoyed learning the difference between the LA system and that of the rest of the US. Also, half an hour closer to NO than the he others!
This is a walking tour and there are stairs. The narrator was very knowledgeable and accommodating to me offering the elevator for bad knees. The history of how the plantation was made is awesome. Great experience.

The Destrehan tour is one of the best plantation tours in Louisiana. I appreciate the full attention paid to the plantation's full story - from the family who had it built (and their dramatic story) to the man who constructed the house to the lives of the enslaved to the role the Destrehan family played in the history of the United States. It is a gorgeous house. The gift shop has a lot of neat items, and the Indigo Cafe offers delicious food. Our tour guide, Jim (with one M) was delightful and never lets the tour get boring.
Jim was great. He had so much knowledge and was entertaining. Too bad this beautiful historic place had the history of the people o be rebuilt after vandals destroyed it. Make sure you check Groupon for a nice discount. Also the food in their cafe was tasty.

An unforgettable tour filled with lots of history, that isn’t taught in school but should be, and a welcoming environment. You are with your tour guide for roughly an hour and it goes by very fast. Afterwards you get to roam freely. Our tour guide, Beverley, was an angel filled with lots of knowledge and contagious smile. Beverley emphasized they are funded by non-profit whose goal is to preserve history. If you’re a history lover this is the perfect place to visit!

We really enjoyed our tour of Destrehan Plantation. Our tour guide, Beverly, was extremely knowledgeable and fun. She even took the time to learn all of our names! Interesting bit of history. Sadly the tour guide was not in a good mood. Sensed she had to do the tour. She was informative but lacked any emotion. An audio recording would have had more interest.
