4 weeks earlier we booked an Etna tour with German guide. Since other providers lacked this, we chose Viator. The fact that there was ultimately no German-speaking tour guide became known a day earlier; we were asked if it could also be done in English. Since there were only three of us in total, the simultaneous translation became easily feasible; it did not interfere. The specified pick-up in front of the hotel was rescheduled; however, as the pick-up was not far and in front of everyone to be found, we did not mind. Our guide was very good, dedicated and punctual - the small group was really a blessing as we had time and all our questions were answered in detail. For us it was a great tour, for physically impaired or non-English speaking people it might have become more difficult due to the last minute changes.
Despite the variety of tours they offer we only did Etna/Taormina as we had no other days available. Appointment in front of the agency and we are greeted by our guide Costanza, very prepared and nice, during the van route told anecdotes and stories of everything we saw. Arrived on Mount Etna (the visit is at an altitude of about 2000 meters) we continue with the walk along old craters where on each of them told us history and geological characteristics of each. At the end, during the descent to Taormina, we stopped at a company that produces local products (wines, oil, jams, honey) where a tasting of these products was offered. Continuing we arrived in Taormina, independent tour without guide for the duration of 2 hours, enough to eat something and walk around the country. After that, return to Catania. It was a wonderful experience, and it is the safest way to visit Etna and not alone with its dangers.
grazieee!!!!
We had the worst tour with this company. After being collected we then went on to collect another couple out of Catania. Apparently the office had given the wrong address so it took us an hour to then get them and drive back. We then attempted a walk but had no time to complete it. Were left at a local food tasting place for ages to only then get to Etna at after 2pm - having been collected at 8.40am!!! We then eventually made it to Taormina only to be left there for longer than told. All in, an expensive waste of time! Marco, our guide, was lovely and knowledgeable but a total shame shambolic organisation led to a very disappointing day
We were the first to be collected and yet the driver was still late, she then had to drive around the block as my partner had gone to powder her nose. The brochure said 8.5 hours poor time management meant we only had two hours to visit Taormina a town that you really needed longer to see it. We managed to see the main attraction just, before we had to make a dash back across the whole of the town so as not to be late. The tour should take out the visit to the winery and use that extra time to be used in the town. At the price i felt it was poor value for money, as we didn't get enough time to see everything, if i was going again i would take the train.
Wonderful day, Etna has an extraordinary charm and Taormina is a little jewel. Janet, the guide, was fantastic, a prepared person, very attentive to the group and really nice. Lara
Beautiful day started with a walk on Etna with a super detailed and interesting explanation from Janet, the guide who accompanied us all day. He then took us to two other surprise places for a short visit and then to Taormina where he left us free. If you were to organize a trip with this tour operator, ask for Janet, a geology graduate with a great passion for her work and truly excellent professionalism!
Interesting tour with lots of detailed knowledge - including about the country, people and customs. Jeanette put a lot of effort into it and enjoys her job. Highly recommended.
Hiking up the mountain and seeing the view. It was the perfect challenge. The guide was attentive. He took us to local spots and gave great narration. Very friendly and helpful.
The guide had not shown up at the hotel lobby. I asked the hotel receptionist to call. She explained I had tickets thru Tripadvisor but was told they did not had my booking on record though I had Tripadvisor voucher and my credit card showed payment. Finally after a lot of Italian, the receptionist told me to rush to a nearby spot where the guide would wait for me. Fortunately the guide was there and the poor man had to deal with my gruffness. The tour was fantastic and views magical. Just wish Lemontour had their act together.
Out tour to Mt Etna was not as described. Mt Etna was magnificent. We did about 1.5 hour hike that was not described. It was very rugged- many steep inclines and descents over very uneven rocky terrain. Would not have done the tour had we known that. Coming down the final part- legs tired and steel decent. I fell - bloodied my knee and elbow- fortunately nothing broken. The town of Taomora we beautiful. Next problem- we had a very comfortable vehicle. But after we left a winery- we - 4 of us had to cram into a very small car with 4 of us crammed into the back seat. I have used Viator many many times - generally being very satisfied. This was the worst Viator trip we have done with them.
