L'emplacement de Maungauika à l'entrée du port de Waitematā en faisait une importante défense côtière. Ce sont les craintes d'une invasion russe dans les années 1880 qui ont conduit à la construction d'un fort et à la disparition de trois batteries de canons disséminées le long de la maunga (montagne).
Le mont Eden est le plus haut volcan parmi les 52 volcans d'Auckland. Il mesure 196 mètres de haut. Du sommet, vous pourrez profiter de vues spectaculaires sur la ville et ses ports.
Cornwall Park est le plus grand parc volcanique d'Auckland. Un autre parc se trouve également à l'intérieur du parc Cornwall qui est "One Tree Hill" Il y a beaucoup d'arbres et d'animaux dans ce parc. Vous pouvez sentir la grande nature à l'intérieur du centre-ville.
La cathédrale Holy Trinity est le seul exemple architectural au monde d'une cathédrale de style gothique pacifique. Vous pouvez ressentir un sentiment de grandeur et de beauté à la fois. Vous pouvez également voir l'église Sainte-Marie qui est fabriquée presque exclusivement à partir de cœur Kauri, un bois originaire de Nouvelle-Zélande, et est l'une des rares églises en bois au monde construites dans le style gothique.

Auckland War Memorial Museum est le premier musée de Nouvelle-Zélande. Établi en 1852 dans une ferme de deux pièces dans la banlieue centrale d'Auckland à Grafton, le musée d'Auckland est reconnu comme détenant des collections d'importance nationale et internationale.

This is actually a review of the half-day tour (see below). Well organized. It includes the highlights that you want to see when you have a short time in Auckland. Tour guide Sean was great. Friendly, accommodating, informative. We booked the full day tour, but the only difference was that was to it include a trip to the War Memorial Museum (ticket NOT included). But the vast majority of the museum happened to be closed that day. But the tour company reimbursed the difference (not including the Viator commission). Kudos to them.

Our guide was amazing! She was punctual & courteous and guided as through the most amazing highlights with great knowledge of each one of them. All of it was just breathtakingly beautiful. The history of Mount Eden & One Tree Hill was very interesting. Our final stop was at the Kew Gardens showcasing a Winter Garden, the Temperate House and the Fernery. We couldn’t have asked for more. The tour was accompanied by a great guide. We never had time pressure and a lot was explained. All described points were approached. There were only two of us on the road with the guide. Finally there was a slideshow of the pictures he took with us, via WhatsApp. Really great!!

Had a blast going around with Lenna, our tour guide, who brought us all around Auckland. She was lovely and when the weather turned bad, she did everything she could to make it comfortable for us. Her charm and humour truly got to us both. She was very knowledgeable about the city, shared her own anecdotes and her own experiences with the city. Highly recommended for those who are looking to get to best bits of Auckland in a relatively quick fashion.
