La cathédrale de carton, officiellement appelée cathédrale de transition, à Christchurch, en Nouvelle-Zélande, est la pro-cathédrale de transition du diocèse anglican de Christchurch, remplaçant la cathédrale de ChristChurch, qui a été considérablement endommagée lors du tremblement de terre de Christchurch en 2011. La cathédrale en carton a été conçue par l'architecte japonais Shigeru Ban et inaugurée en août 2013. Il est situé sur le site de l'ancienne église Saint-Jean-Baptiste, à l'angle des rues Hereford et Madras, sur Latimer Square, à plusieurs pâtés de maisons de l'emplacement permanent de la cathédrale ChristChurch.
Christchurch, surnommée la Garden City, est un village anglophile doté de jardins bien entretenus et de rues bordées d'arbres. Son joyau est le jardin botanique de Christchurch, d'une superficie de 21 hectares, joliment situé dans le parc Hagley, le long de la sinueuse rivière Avon. Les jardins sont plantés de milliers de plantes et d'arbres exotiques et indigènes, notamment des fleurs saisonnières telles que des magnolias, des azalées et 250 variétés de roses.

Rosa was our tour guide, she promptly picked us up by 2.30pm took our around the cardboard church, art gallery, botanical gardens and the cashmere lookout. Since the weather was bad she suggested the ferrymead vintage park which we also loved. Would recommend this tour to get around the city in a short time.

Pickup was on time and we went to all the sites. The ride was a Tesla model 3. The guide didn’t seem all that engaged or knowledgeable. Most of the info we got was from prerecorded travel notes that sounded like they were recorded with AI.

Being picked up in a Tesla and driven all around Christchurch with our very own private guide was a wonderful and efficient way to be able to tour so many of the different sights in and around Christchurch. Our guide was well informed and friendly and a good driver, too. :) He showed us interesting places that were off the beaten track from the regular sight seeing list. We really enjoyed the Cardboard Cathedral. Friends on the ship had not heard of it and we were pleased that we were given the opportunity to see it this unique building and tell them all about it. Big thumbs up for our guide!

This was a pleasant tour. The driver was punctual, accommodating and friendly. Unfortunately, we ran out of time at the Botanical Gardens (waiting for lunch) and could not see anything there, we missed the highlight of the tour actually. The stop at the zoo could easily be deleted, it is a nice place for children but not for older cruise travelers.

Our excellent driver, Andrew, was friendly and informative. However, somehow the advertised timing for this excursion of off by a long shot. Although we did not spend extra time (beyond 5 min. or so) at the first several stops, there was no time at the end to visit the Botanic Gardens (which was supposed to be an hour long, and was my most anticipated stop). We felt that this was poor planning on the part of the tour company, and they did not take travel times sufficiently into account. We felt cheated out of a significant part of the tour.
Thank you for your review. In the viator, we couldn't input the vehicle travel time when creating the schedule, so we had to include the travel time spent in itineraries. While our guide was nice person, tour lacked proper planning. Main attraction, card board church was closed already when we reached, seems it closes earlier every Saturday and disappointment was easily avoidable if this stop was a first stop. Moreover it felt like a uber ride transportation from point a to point b without providing much context- for context guide did start playing audio after this was pointed out, would have expected a well planned professional experience at this price. Regret having booked with this tour company. Our request for partial refund was also quickly denied which would seem a fair ask and no apologies were offered for the mix up which was really tour planning fault.
Hello. We feel sorry about the tour you felt. Normally cardboard cathedral is opened till late even weekend. I think there some event on this day. And Cardboard Cathedral isn't a main itinerary. It only takes 10-15min stop. And we had to refused your refund request because of missing only this place. We are very sorry for the inconvenience you experienced on your trip. Our guide, Sam was awesome. The WETA tour was meh. Small facility and basically just looking at models. But the town tour that Sam gave us was amazing with excellent narration. Followed his recommendations and went to Zealandia after (he dropped us off) and it was amazing. Definitely recommend.

A very nice introduction to Christchurch and the city's history, visiting many sights and places of interest. Also about the earthquake a few years ago, and the rebuilding of the city after that. The Botanic Garden is a must.
