Micheal G was very enthusiastic and with great knowledge about Athenas, the tour was wonderful, it was great to have someone who you could ask anything to and they would know how to answer it, the museum was very interesting, a key moment from the museum was how the athenians used certain rocks for their building and color, the lunch where we ate was good, we learnt a lot and further lengthened our knowledge.
The tour was average, and the guide was knowledgeable. However, she frequently went off topic, bringing up present-day political issues that were not relevant to the tour. She repeatedly discussed subjects such as the Greek healthcare system, foreign investment, government corruption, and personal incidents, including mentioning several times that someone had suffered a stroke. As a result, the tour did not focus as much on the ruins as I had hoped. The guide also asked too many personal questions ("tell me about this statue and don't ask about my relationship status!"), which made the experience feel less comfortable and less focused.
Guide was great, however no lunch provided?
Jo was really wonderful. We learned so many new things. She was truly knowledgeable. I'm not sure, but I think one of her degrees or studies was Archeology. If just based on the tour alone, I would rate the Acropolis and Museum 5 stars. Unfortunately, we the lunch option. We thought our guide would have joined us to continue discussing what we had seen. We were just dropped off at a substandard restaurant alone. The service was terribly slow and the food was mediocre. My recommendation would be don't opt for lunch. I actually did not see that the lunch was optional when I booked it, so some blame is on me.
Had a great time running through the ruins and museum. Sophia and Viktor were great guides. The Greek restaurant was really good as well
Our guide was very knowledgeable and very helpful. Get there and go as early as possible because it gets hot and crowded quickly.
Our guide was great and she did an excellent job! Everything was executed as per plan. Very well organized.
Tour guide was exceedingly knowledgeable, but the cost was exceedingly high. The tour did not book the lunch until the day of and as a result, we were put in the inside in a doorway area and was not allowed to sit outside. The lunch menu was very limited.. Restuarant had an extensive lunch menu, but we’re only giving very minimal choices and we had to pay for our own drinks with no desserts. The cost for the tickets were €60 for the Acropolis and Panthon per person which made the tour very expensive. I expected more for the lunch. I guess it was my error since we were the only two in our tour group. I took the tour with lunch.
We had a wonderful experience on this tour, led by our knowledgeable, funny, and kind guide Jason (or Iasonas). Jason not only shared great information about the history of the Parthenon for the history geek in the family (haha, that's me) but he also offered engaging insights about mythology for our mythology-obsessed 8 year old daughter. He's also very friendly and good with kids, which was wholly unexpected but a delight since our daughter ended up joining us on the tour. She was the only child on the morning's tour, but Jason made her feel included and special by asking her witty questions and bringing her into the discussion of myths and greek religion. If only all history teachers did the same, perhaps more of us would love history?! :) Jason has an impressive knowledge of the art in the Parthenon museum, including the spectacular friezes and collection of sculptures. He shared details we would never picked up on our own unless we spent the whole day glued to our guidebooks rather than relaxing and enjoying the museum and walk to to the Parthenon. For instance, he explained how the pigments were created for the paints and patterns that the sculptures once boasted, and why the kourai statues' expressions changed so dramatically between the archaic and classical era. These little details bring the ancient art to life. I highly recommend this tour curated by Athens Walking Tours. We lucked out finding it as it was the only one with space for the morning we had free but I would gladly book another tour with them on future visits to Athens or the surrounding areas. Our tour with Jason was informative, enjoyable, and helped us make use of our limited time at one of the Western World's most impressive archeological sites. Last but not least, our included lunch at the Arcadia taverna was delicious. We shared a greek salad and the moussaka was hearty and flavorful. All in all, we had a wonderful morning tour followed by a great lunch in the shadow of the Parthenon. Even my tour-skeptical husband loved every minute. 5 stars to this tour, and especially to our wonderful host Jason / Iasonas.
Tour guide was excellent. Incredible knowledge.
