C'était le travail d'amour de Ruggles Sylvester Morse, un riche propriétaire d'hôtel basé à la Nouvelle-Orléans. Il engagea un architecte de renom pour en faire sa résidence d'été en 1860.

C'est l'une des plus anciennes institutions artistiques du pays, fondée en 1882. Alors que le musée s'est considérablement développé au fil des ans, des problèmes d'espace, de stockage et administratifs l'ont tourmenté.
Longfellow a vécu et écrit certaines de ses œuvres les plus célèbres ici, y compris son premier poème à treize ans.
Cette statue au centre de la place est Notre-Dame des Victoires, inspirée de la déesse grecque de la sagesse et de la guerre, Minerve.
La structure actuelle de style néo-Renaissance a été achevée en 1912. Mais elle remplace un autre hôtel de ville qui a succombé à un incendie en 1908.

Street signs are not well marked and the app is a bit slow to catch up. It was nice that it did talk as you walked.

I liked the flexibility of this self guided tour. When I reached the Victorian Mansion, I took their tour and after the tour, I continued the walking tour. I could stop and take many photos, too.

It was well put together and easy to follow the directions. Many interesting places to see. Once learned the app it was easy to navigate. The only negative is that the directions to download the app (or even what the app is) is not explained on the Viator ticket so that caused a bunch of stress. Calling Viator for information on that was not helpful at all.
