6, 7, 8, 9 heures du matin, nous commençons votre visite à Alexandrie, la deuxième plus grande ville d'Égypte, capitale de l'Égypte pendant près de mille ans. Alexandrie a été fondée par Alexandre le Grand, qui a une atmosphère plus méditerranéenne que moyen-orientale et est célèbre pour ses vestiges romains.
Votre premier arrêt dans cette ville historique sont les catacombes qui sont le plus grand cimetière romain composé de trois niveaux taillés dans la roche au 1er ou 2e siècle.
La colonne de Pompée, également connue comme la colonne commémorative la plus vénérée d'Égypte, se dresse fièrement comme un symbole d'importance historique. Façonnée en granit rouge massif, cette structure colossale atteint une hauteur stupéfiante d'environ 28 mètres, tandis que sa base affiche un diamètre impressionnant de 2,7 mètres. Ornant la partie supérieure du côté ouest se trouve une inscription écrite dans l'élégante langue grecque. Cette inscription rend hommage à l'éminent empereur Dioclétien, connu pour son engagement indéfectible en faveur de la justice et son rôle de gardien d'Alexandrie. Elle reconnaît également les efforts monumentaux de Postumus, l'éminent préfet d'Égypte, qui a supervisé l'érection de ce magnifique monument. Par sa grandeur et sa pertinence historique, la colonne de Pompée témoigne du riche héritage et de l'héritage durable de l'Égypte.
La bibliothèque d'Alexandrie était l'une des bibliothèques les plus célèbres et les plus influentes du monde antique. Elle était située à Alexandrie, en Égypte, et a été construite au IIIe siècle avant J.-C. par le grand souverain Ptolémée Ier Soter. La bibliothèque a été conçue pour abriter une vaste collection de livres et de manuscrits, notamment des ouvrages sur la philosophie, les mathématiques, les sciences et la littérature. Elle est rapidement devenue un centre d'apprentissage et de culture dans le monde antique, et son influence s'est étendue bien au-delà d'Alexandrie. La bibliothèque d'Alexandrie était réputée pour son immense collection de livres et de manuscrits. On disait qu'elle contenait jusqu'à 500 000 rouleaux et qu'elle était l'une des plus grandes collections de connaissances du monde antique. La bibliothèque abritait également plusieurs érudits et penseurs célèbres, dont le mathématicien Euclide et l'astronome Ératosthène.
: La citadelle de Qaitbay à Alexandrie est considérée comme l'une des forteresses défensives les plus importantes d'Égypte et de la côte méditerranéenne. Au XVe siècle après J.-C., elle était essentielle aux fortifications d'Alexandrie. La citadelle se trouve à l'entrée du port oriental, à la pointe est de l'île de Pharos. Elle a été érigée sur le site du célèbre phare d'Alexandrie, l'une des sept merveilles du monde antique. Le phare a continué à fonctionner jusqu'à l'époque de la conquête arabe. Plusieurs catastrophes se sont produites et la forme du phare a été quelque peu modifiée, mais il a continué à fonctionner. La restauration a commencé sous Ahmed Ibn Tulun (vers 880 après J.-C.). Au XIe siècle, un tremblement de terre a endommagé la partie octogonale. La partie inférieure a survécu mais ne pouvait servir que de tour de guet, donc une petite mosquée a été construite au sommet. Au XIVe siècle, un tremblement de terre destructeur a détruit le bâtiment. arrêt facultatif pour déjeuner au marché aux poissons

Great full day private tour to Alexandria. Our tour guide, Ahmed, started providing historical facts about Alexandria on the way there. Provided options on what to see and ended trip by eating at a great seafood restaurant overlooking the Mediterranean.

We booked this a couple of days before we went and it was no issue at all. Ehab (guide) and Shady (driver) picked us up in a clean modern and most importantly, well air conditioned car. It’s about a 2 and a half hour drive from our hotel in Giza, but that flew by on the modern motorway with Ehab pointing out interesting buildings along the way. Alexandria itself is a fascinating mix of ancient and modern buildings. We visited the catacombs, the Pompei Pillar, the citadel/site of the old Alexandria lighthouse right next to the Mediterranean Sea.Then we paid a visit to the beautiful Abu Al -Abbas Al Mursi Mosque. Next was time for a fish lunch in a restaurant right on the seaside. Before we went to the modern Alexandria Library. Ehab was knowledge about everything we saw and obviously loves the history he was telling us about, and after every stop gave us as much time as we needed on our own to look around and take our own pictures. The guys then dropped us back to our hotel after a wonderful and interesting day.

We had a day tour to Alexandria and the whole package was incredibly. We were picked up from Cairo sharp in the morning. We met out guide Eriny at Alexandria and she took care of us right off the bat. She showed us the catacombs, the Alexandria library, the St. Micheal cathedral , mosque and Roman Amphitheater. She had such a strong knowledge about each of the places and answered everything we asked. She was very patient with us and a greatvconversationalist. Our guide Ehab spoke excellent English and was well versed in Egyptian history. We visited 5 places in Alexandria, with the highlights being the Citadel, the Alexandria Library and the Catacombs. The drive is around 2.5 hours each way, so makes for a long day.
