That sounds like a truly lovely day for you and Mum. I’m so pleased you were able to enjoy walking around the village together and take in the surroundings at a relaxed pace. It was also very thoughtful of Wayne to stop and show you the hot mud spots — what an interesting experience to add to the day. Our day trip to Rotorua, including visits to the Maori Village and the Polynesian Spa, was thoroughly enjoyable. Our guide, Jaime, was truly exceptional. He was very informative and incredibly accommodating, consistently ensuring everyone's comfort and well-being. He brought smiles to everyone's faces. He kept us well-informed about the schedule and upcoming activities. The entire tour was outstanding. I would highly recommend this tour to anyone interested in experiencing Rotorua. Thank you so much for taking the time to share this — it’s really lovely to read. We’re so glad you had such an enjoyable day in Rotorua. The combination of the Māori Village and the Polynesian Spa makes for a pretty special experience, so it’s great to hear it all came together so well for you. Jaime will really appreciate your kind words. He puts a lot of effort into making sure everyone feels comfortable, informed, and included throughout the day, so it’s nice to hear that made a difference. Keeping things running smoothly while still making it feel relaxed is something he takes a lot of pride in. It’s also great to hear the day felt well organised and that you always knew what was coming next — that can really help you just settle in and enjoy everything. Thank you again for the recommendation, and for trusting us with your Rotorua experience. We’re really glad we could be part of your trip!
Picked up early . Tour to Māori village learning about the culture and resilience of the people was great Wai o tapu was amazing seeing the sulphur emission from the craters and hot pools . Both a must do. Our guide on April 6 th 2026 was amazing. He Ensured our safety and made sure we got back on tour in a timely manner.
Thank you for sharing this — it’s really nice to read. An early start, but it sounds like the day delivered. The Māori village experience is always something special, especially hearing the stories of culture and resilience firsthand, so we’re glad that stood out for you. And Wai-O-Tapu never disappoints — those sulphur craters and hot pools are pretty incredible to see up close. Great to hear your guide on the 6th made such a positive impact as well. Keeping everything running smoothly while making sure everyone feels safe and looked after is a big part of the day, so that will mean a lot to him. Thanks again for coming along — really appreciate you taking the time to share your experience.
This is an ORIGINAL VILLAGE, with actual tribes people living in it. Buildings are original and old. You get a great sense of the passion the Māori people have for their culture and sharing about it. The “other tour” or village is just built for commercial use to sell to tourists. But thie experience is TRUE and with original buildings. I highly recommend this TRUE to the Māori people tour. My tour guides Mother was born in this village and his father was from a tribe at a different village. He was humorous, humble and had a vast amount of knowledge. The ceremony with the traditional Haka song and dance was AMAZING! I LOVE watching the Rugby Haka performances before each match, but it was moving for them to give the explanation and story behind it. Especially why it’s important to stick the tongue out. Lol The love song they sang after was so beautiful that it brought me to tears. Great singing voices and moving love story…I’m surprised Disney hasn’t picked up this story and made an animated movie! LOVE THE VILLAGE, can’t wait to come back and eat some more fresh made corn from the streaming pools. Best made corn!
Thank you so much for such a heartfelt and thoughtful review. It really means a lot to read this. You’ve captured exactly what makes the village so special. It’s not a staged or recreated experience — it’s a real, living community, and the people who share it with visitors do so with genuine pride and passion for their culture. Hearing that this came through so strongly for you is wonderful. It’s also great to hear how much the storytelling and performances resonated with you. The haka, especially when you understand the meaning behind it, can be incredibly powerful, and that love song has a way of staying with people long after the day ends. The connection, the emotion, and the history behind it all really do make it something unforgettable. And we love that you mentioned the corn — it’s a simple thing, but it’s such a unique and authentic part of the experience (and yes, it really is delicious!). Thank you again for sharing this. We’re so glad the day meant so much to you, and we’d love to welcome you back again in the future.
The village experience was stellar! It is a must do! Our driver for the day was terrible. When told we couldn’t hear him in the back of the van, he said he couldn’t use the microphone and we were going to see the sites which is what we paid for. He was very disorganized with our schedules and stopped randomly. The spa was beautiful but the staff checking us in was rude and unhelpful. Just not giving us enough information as we arrived. We saw other groups getting a pre-tour and explanation of the pools, but we were told nothing. It was also unclear how to choose which experience of those listed. We thought we would get to choose our activities from the description, but were told we were assigned to the spa. Would have love to see redwoods.
Thank you for taking the time to share your feedback. We’re really glad to hear that you enjoyed the village experience — it truly is a special place and we’re pleased that part of the day stood out for you. That said, we’re very sorry to hear about the rest of your experience. John is actually one of our more experienced drivers, so hearing that the day felt disorganised and that communication wasn’t clear is genuinely surprising and disappointing for us. Please accept our sincere apologies, especially regarding the microphone. Guests in the back of the vehicle should always be able to hear the guide clearly, and this is certainly not the experience we want any of our guests to have. We will certainly be speaking with John and reinforcing the importance of clear communication and keeping the day running smoothly for everyone. We’re also sorry to hear about your experience on arrival at the spa. The facilities there are wonderful, but guests should absolutely be given a clear explanation of the different pools and how everything works. We will pass this feedback along to the spa team so they are aware of your experience. Just to clarify, the spa activity was the option selected when the booking was made through Viator, which is why that was the experience arranged for you on the day. However, we completely understand how the options might not always feel clear, and we’re always happy to help explain or answer questions before the tour so guests know exactly what to expect. Thank you again for your honest feedback. We truly appreciate you bringing these points to our attention as it helps us improve the experience for future guests.
Highly recommend it! We did the live maori village with spa and they were both excellent. The tour driver was knowledgeable and seemed to know the area well, he was also very informative. Plan to stay a couple days in Rotorua to truly enjoy the experience. The drive was long and we felt rushed being there only for a few hours, wished we had more time to explore. Overall, one of the highlights of our trip.
Thank you for the thoughtful review! We’re really glad to hear the day was one of the highlights of your trip. The Living Māori Village and the spa experience in Rotorua are both pretty special, so it’s great to hear you enjoyed them. Rotorua has such a unique atmosphere with its geothermal activity and strong Māori culture, and many guests say the same thing — that they wish they had a little more time there. It’s also nice to hear your driver helped make the journey enjoyable. Our guides love sharing what they know about the area along the way, especially on the longer drives. Thank you as well for the recommendation, and for sharing your advice about staying a couple of days in Rotorua. We really appreciate you taking the time to share your experience with us.
