Construite par les Vikings il y a plus de mille ans, la tour Reginald est le plus ancien bâtiment municipal d'Irlande. Située au sommet du Triangle Viking de Waterford, la tour figure dans de nombreux épisodes historiques, de Strongbow à Cromwell, Perkin Warbeck, le roi Jacques II et bien d'autres encore.
Une colonie monastique existait sur la petite île du 6ème au 8ème siècle après JC. Une sculpture d'une tête de moine de cette période orne l'entrée du château à ce jour. Les Vikings sont arrivés au 9ème siècle et deux fortifications ont été construites sur l'île de Vryk "Dane's Island". Les Normands sont venus ensuite envahir en 1170 et Maurice Fitzgerald, le cousin de Stongbow, a été retenu prisonnier sur Little Island par les Ossermen pendant la conquête. Il a été dûment récompensé avec beaucoup de terres dans la foulée et ainsi l'île deviendrait la maison des comtes de Kildare pendant huit siècles.

Great way for a family to travel up the suir and gain some insights into some of the local history. John our guide was very knowledgeable and Andy let my youngest pilot the boat.

It was such fun! I'm pretty good with the history in Ireland and the vikings etc but my family and I learned so much on this tour. The guide and the captain (Mary & Andy) were exceptionally friendly and knowledgeable. There was complimentary tea, coffee, water, juice and snacks offered. There was also binoculars available to use and viking hats for photo opportunities! I'll definitely be booking again next time I'm in Waterford. I'd highly recommend it to anyone!!

Andy and Mary were very welcoming hosts. Andy was the captain and Mary explained everything. In saying that, so did Andy. It was a beautiful day and we had a great time. My wife and I were the only 2 on the boat because a group of 4 cancelled. They brought us out anyway. I'd recommend it to everyone

A beautiful scenic boat ride. A little light on the Viking history side, however, rich with Irish culture and history. John the narrator was fun and friendly. He walked us over to O’Sullivans and introduced us to the owner. Live entertainment was really pleasant. ML
