Overwhelming, but worth it.

I got the skip the line tour, but it was very crowded on Valentine's Day so you couldn't really skip the line. It was a little hard to know where to meet. I was told I can just go to the 3rd tent and not get in line(I was running a little behind the meeting time). I waited in line and wasn't allowed in because I didn't get my paper ticket from the staff. I got back out of line after making it all the way to the front and had to try to find the person to meet to get a paper ticket. Thankfully we were able to meet after asking around for who I should meet up with. I got my paper ticket and was told to get back in line which was the length of the whole building. Very crowded and a bit chaotic and frustrating. The staff said she would normally go in with us, but because it was very crowded, she didn't. It's so many sections to tour. It takes all day, several hours, especially since it was crowded and having so many groups touring at the same time. It was so much to see, I was a bit overwhelmed. I don't regret going though. My cameras were dying, but I was able to charge it a bit while there, but unfortunately the best for last that I was charging my phones for, you weren't able to record or take pictures of the Sistine Chapel. They move you along while trying to get photos at a lot of the sections and the rooms, so there's not a line at the entrance of each section. It was a lot of beautiful art work, relics and statues to see. I'm glad I went. It was something nice to do on Valentine's Day, first time in Italy.

Excellent

I was guided from the agreed starting point. Very clear our guide with the directions. We didn't line up to get in. You can tour the Sistine museum and chapel at your own pace. You can pay audio guide in the museum for 8€

Mass of people

The museum was simply no longer enjoyable with the crowd. You swim in the stream and you can't let the art affect you like in normal museums. Please take care to limit the crowd and take into account safety aspects. I find it critical to let so many people in in a confined space.

Thank you for sharing your experience. We’re very sorry to hear that the large crowds affected your visit. Unfortunately, the number of visitors allowed inside the Vatican Museums is managed exclusively by the Museum administration, and tour operators like us have no control over the flow of people. We always do our best to keep our groups small and to inform our guests about peak visiting times so they know what to expect. Your feedback is greatly appreciated, and we will use it to continue improving our communication and service. If you have any suggestions or if you would like assistance booking other tours in Rome, please feel free to contact us at tous@toursofrome.info . Thank you again for your review, and we hope to welcome you on another tour in the future.

Too crowded. Group tours overwhelm venue

Ticket collection wasn’t ideal. Hanging around a few dirty steps with massive crowds is not fun. Why not simply provide the paperwork directly via email? The skip the Line ticket really helped. But the crowds and group tours plus the number of people in the museum and chapel completely spoil her visit. The intensity of crowds inside the museum was overwhelming. This spoiled what is an excellent museum. The number of steps, stairs and amount of walking can’t be underestimated. The escalator from the ticket hall should’ve been a clue that this is an intensive activity. My day was spoiled by the visit of VIPs, making getting to ticket collection problematic. You must allow lots of time to navigate to ticket collection and deal with unexpected events and delays. I find the ticket cost to be excessive.. This is obvious when you look at the price of a ticket sold by the museum, compared to the sellers price. The Sistine chapel was literally full of people packed together. It was very difficult to find a space and almost impossible to find a seat. If you want to see these things, I suggest you either buy a book or watch a film because I couldn’t see you very much because of all the bodies. I guess I’m a tourist so I’m to blame too.

Thank you for taking the time to share such a detailed review. We truly appreciate your feedback and are sorry to hear that several aspects of your visit did not meet expectations. Regarding ticket collection, we understand it can feel inconvenient, especially during busy periods or when unexpected events—such as VIP visits—cause additional delays. The Vatican Museums require in-person check-ins for third-party bookings, which unfortunately limits our ability to send the official tickets directly by email. Still, we are continuously working to make the process as smooth as possible for our guests. Crowds inside the Vatican Museums and Sistine Chapel are managed solely by the Museum administration, and during peak hours the visitor flow can be very intense. While our skip-the-line access helps reduce waiting time at the entrance, we fully understand how overwhelming the interior crowds can be and how that affects the experience. We also recognize your concerns about the overall pricing and the amount of walking involved. These are important points, and your comments help us improve our communication so guests know exactly what to expect before the tour. If you have any suggestions that could help us enhance our service—or if you plan to book other tours in Rome—we would be grateful to hear from you at tous@toursofrome.info . Thank you again for your review, and we hope to have the opportunity to offer you a better experience in the future.
