What a great way to spend our first day in KL, in the jungle. Most of the options to visit the jungle from KL are far away, 3 h away, but this is only 1 h from KL center. Chen was very knowledgable about malaysian history and nature, he did not rush, and we could enjoy the surroundings at our own pace.
I was a bit apprehensive about the river trek as I woke up so jetlagged I felt poorly. After reading all the good reviews I had faith that Chen would make our day magical, and it exceeded our expectations. As we were a single group booked on, Chen was able to switch to a different experience that was more manageable for us. We quad biked and then did a shorter trek to a beautiful waterfall and swimming area, stopping to see the beautiful fauna and flora along the way. Chen was both knowledgeable and fun, and the food provided was the icing on the cake. It was such a special experience to share with my family and definitely the highlight of our trip to Malaysia!
Wow, this was one of the most incredible tours I have ever been on. The jungle you trek through is beyond ancient, and literally could have looked like what a dinosaur may have seen. The trail is pretty crazy, but truly beautiful as you wind your way through the jungle. When you get to the waterfall it is gorgeous and the water is so refreshing and the air so nice and cool. There were not nearly as many bugs as I thought there would be, and the ones that were there were practically harmless and dare I say friendly. The tour guide Chen is one of the coolest people I met on my Malaysia holiday. I bet he's hiked this trail hundreds of times, but even then is still enthusiastic about it and having just as much fun as everyone else. Definitely listen to Chen and take the walking stick, it is clutch, and 100% bring a towel and change of clothes. The exertion from the hike combined with the heat and humidity is hardcore. The food provided on the tour was actually pretty good. Flavor wise I enjoyed the breakfast the most, but eating at the waterfall surrounded by the jungle was kind of magical. It is probably a once in a lifetime experience for most people. I highly encourage you to go for it if you're thinking about it. Peace
Chen is an amazing guide and this trip is a great experience. From enjoying the local food to the great stories about the local history. The waterfalls are really nice and recharging you to carry on while surrounded by the fantastic nature.
We had the best time on the jungle Trek with Chen. The hike itself wasn't too difficult (minus the humidity!) and Chen told us about multiple plants, animals and Malaysian history on the way. The waterfall itself was beautiful and we enjoyed a swim before lunch. We were able to shower back at Chens guesthouse before heading for dinner. What was also great was the chance to eat 3 traditional meals - Indian breakfast, Malaysian lunch & Chinese dinner. All were delicious.
Primal Wilderness Experience!!! FAR OUT what an incredible experience I had, the highlight of my 5 day stop-over in KL. From start to end, Chen well and truly exceeded my high hopes. Not only was there excellent communication from the initial booking, Chen tailored the experience to my tight schedule (an evening flight out) and an existing injury. Aside from amazing customer service, the experience into the jungle itself was immensely special. The hike there is through beautiful scenery and Chen is constantly on the look-out to share with you his deep knowledge of the local animals and botanicals after taking clients through the area for over 12 years. The waterfall itself was the gold at the end of the rainbow, it was quite something to see it and then swim through it to sit under the thundering water, sheltered by a rock ledge. Chen also runs a small guesthouse in the village near to the hike, I definitely would have stayed there had I not already had accommodation in KL. I look forward to staying there next trip! I highly recommend this activity for anyone looking for an intimate experience of the Malaysian jungle - you will be fed, watered and truly spoilt by what awaits you! Thanks so much for the effort you made, Chen, and for your commitment to the lasting protection of this special place.
This is a great white water rafting experience. The guides are friendly, helpful & knowledgeable, it’s all totally safe, and heaps of fun.
What a wonderful day we spent with Chen! It was all so perfectly planned, starting with a prompt pick-up from the hotel and then on for a typical Malaysian breakfast, which was so authentic and delicious. The jungle trek itself was a beautiful experience, the path was deserted so it was just us and the noises of the wilderness which was such a special experience. The waterfall and river swim were very refreshing and the perfect spot for our picnic lunch, again consisting of authentic Malaysian cuisine. After the return trek, Chen drove us to his b&b retreat where we were able to shower and change - and then it was off to a local Malaysian Chinese restaurant for dinner before heading back to our hotel in Kuala Lumpur. I could not fault this tour - we felt we experienced so much and learned so much about Malaysia too. Thoroughly recommend!
The first and the second time I went to Malaysia (9 and 6 years ago), I chose Chen because of the great reviews on Tripadvisor. We all adored it and I was stunned by the way Chen handeled our group of 50 students, parents and teachers - in a real and proper jungle trek. Definitely not something anyone can do. I certainly consider him one of the best guides in the world. I had done quite some trekkings around the world but I could do this one again and again. If you're travelling to Malaysia (and if you like adventures like swimming beneath a waterfall), do take time to do one of the trips with him. Firstly, he always makes 150% sure (not only 100) that you will stay safe - which is not that easy when you have children with you. Secondly, he has a brilliant sense of humour and last but not least, staying at Sarang by the Brook is such a unique and wonderful experience that this year, when we had our trip and stayed there with my family, our children said they wished they could just stay there forever. I also cannot go past the food that we ate as Chen was always taking us to places and spoiling us with delicious dishes (and the best cookies ever). I am not sure when we’ll have the chance to return but whenever we will, we’ll surely return.
Chen is a LEGEND! This tour simply had everything, tasting local food (breakfast, lunch, dinner), beautiful jungle, seeing natives, waterfalls, swimming, hiking, having loads of fun, beautiful photos (he's a professional) and generally SUPER EASY-GOING guy, who made my experience so pleasant and chilled. Chen also knows so many interesting & fun facts about his country/area, so it was very educative as well, but in a such a fun way. He also made sure I'm feeling ok during the whole day, very accommodating and mindful! This was the day after I arrived to KL and I needed to escape the RUSH of the city and I got much more than that, if I had more time in KL, I would also stay in his legendary bed'n'breakfast place right next to the jungle with singing apes haha. If you're going to KL and you're also nature lover, this is your spot, no long driving like other hiking tours, overall we spent in the car max 2hrs from the whole day. Thank you again Chen, you've set the bar very high for my travelling experiences right on the beginning of it. 💛
