Le quartier d'Armanitola, aux Arméniens, offre un aperçu fascinant de la riche histoire multiculturelle de Dacca. Au cours des XVIIe et XVIIIe siècles, des marchands arméniens ont migré vers le Bengale, établissant une communauté prospère dans ce qui est maintenant connu sous le nom d'Armanitola, un quartier animé du vieux Dacca. Les Arméniens ont apporté avec eux leur culture unique, leur sens des affaires et leurs traditions, contribuant de manière significative à l’économie de Dacca, en particulier dans le commerce et le textile.
La maison Ruplal est un manoir historique situé le long des rives de la rivière Buriganga à Dacca, au Bangladesh. Construite à la fin du XIXe siècle par deux marchands aisés, Ruplal Das et son frère Raghunath Das, la maison présente un élégant mélange de styles architecturaux européens et moghols. Autrefois symbole d'opulence, le manoir dispose de grandes salles, de sculptures en bois complexes et de cours spacieuses. Malgré son état de délabrement actuel, Ruplal House reste un repère culturel et historique important, reflétant la grandeur du passé colonial de Dacca et le riche patrimoine de la classe marchande de la ville
Northbrook Hall, situé à Dacca, est un bâtiment historique construit pendant la période coloniale britannique. Nommé d'après Lord Northbrook, le vice-roi des Indes, il a été inauguré en 1881 en tant qu'hôtel de ville et centre culturel. L'architecture de Northbrook Hall reflète le style colonial avec son design élégant et ses éléments décoratifs. Au fil des ans, il a servi à diverses fins, notamment en organisant des événements sociaux, des émissions culturelles et des réunions publiques. Aujourd’hui, Northbrook Hall symbolise le riche patrimoine colonial de Dacca et continue d’être un lieu important pour les activités culturelles et communautaires.

My husband and I loved discovering Old Dhaka’s hidden gems. The tour was well-paced for us as seniors, with time to rest and enjoy. The food tastings were delicious, and the stories brought the city’s history alive. A thoughtful, memorable experience we’ll always cherish.

I've been on two tours in Old Dhaka with Secrets Bangladesh (I brought my friends one time and husband the other), and would recommend it to anyone! It's easy to communicate with the team, and our guide Sarfaraz (Edward) was knowledgeable, fun and easygoing.Only point to improve was that they did not check whether Lalbagh was open on the day or not. We drove there, and it was closed. It's still a must to elevate your understanding of both Dhaka and Bangladesh 🇧🇩

Living in Dhaka, I did experience old Dhaka a few times, but never like this or in such detail. Mishak and his team are doing an excellent job. We got to see most of the heritage buildings and learn the history. They are very very thorough at what they do. Also very professional. We walked through many alleys with rich history, the spice market, banks of the Buriganga river and was lucky to be able to go up to a few rooftops and balconies with incredible views; which ARE the ‘secrets’ of Dhaka. I would suggest this for everybody, old and young, foreign or local. Sadly, we couldn’t do the food tour, or try any food places as we were short on time. Wear comfortable shoes, and that’s all you need! The rest will be taken care of by the team of SecretsBangladesh! Loved every bit and wasn’t bored for a minute. Thank you Secrets! 🙏

We visited some sites that are hardly covered within general tours but have very unique stories and meaning. Highlights were the visit to hidden architectural marvels and trying local delicacies from special cafes that I’d never find alone.
