Very nice!

I was only person signed up so we only did robbers island and then walked about the waterfront at my request. Faizallah was very accommodating and got me to the front of lines and quickly boarded. She knew the ins and outs and it was reassuring to have someone give the best directions. After robbers island I wanted to see the waterfront so she managed to tour me around which was delightful. Showed me some of the most lovely spots for views and rooftop drinks and dining. She is very knowledgeable and goes a long way to make sure her clients are cared for! Though it was a bit different what I booked, it was just as wonderful with her company and orientation and understanding what I was interested to see and finding a way to fit it in!

Hi Mary you are one wonderful human being so very kind and a heart of gold. It was lovely to be with you too. We are so sorry you were not able to visit the townships as our partners cannot operate a one person tour. The refund for the township tour will be in your bank within 5 working days. Best wishes. and we are so very thankful and grateful to you for booking with us. Wishing you and you family well always.

Essential tour for better understanding the human condition

Each guide provided excellent general and personal insights that enabled us to better understand South Africa’s recent history; the nature and personal impact of apartheid; and the current environment. Luduomo’s (sp?) willingness to share life in the settlements was appreciated and valuable to us. Faziela went above and beyond in enhancing our experience, keeping us informed, and providing transportation way. She used her local connections to give us access to amazing views of Cape Town. The District 6 area and museum, the township visit, the tour of Robben Island — such essential places to visit and all made better by two excelkent guides

Great tour with Faz!

Unfortunately, the visit to the township did not take place due to a lack of participants, but Faz arranged an alternative program for me. This consisted of a city tour followed by the Robben Island tour. Faz took me to many places/museums that I had not known before and was also a great photographer and entertaining travel companion. I had a lot of fun on the tour, I learned a lot of new things and rarely have I had a guide who was as concerned about the well-being of his guests as Faz. Thank you, dear Faz, for a great day!!! 10 stars!!

One of the best guides ever.

Took me around the city to some highlights before the island tour. What an incredible guide with an incredible spirit that keeps you moving. She was so willing to spend as much time as I wanted at places and took me to an incredible coffee house too. One of the best guides I’ve had. Thank you Faziela for a great day of memories.

AMAZING EXPERIENCE!! A+++

Jameel and Faziela provided outstanding service throughout. I initially tried to purchase Robben Island tickets through the official website a month in advance but to my surprise they were sold out for the entire week i could go. unknowingly it was heritage week in South Africa and everyone was off. I found ML Sultan through TA and was nearly immediately responded to by Jameel saying he could locate me 2 tickets. Well he did come through with the tickets and much more. The entire tour was handled professionally and by experienced, local guides. The District 6 museum was informative and moving at the same time. Next we traveled to the Langa township where we were handed off to a local resident/guide who provided a close up look to the conditions most Black South Africans are living in. A definite eye opener but nonetheless worthwhile, we visited a school and a help center for families/mothers. Both of these places provided the ability to donate or buy on-site goods made by the women. The guide was eager to answer all and any questions. Next we were transferred to the waterfront for our Robben Island experience. The process was smoothly handled by Faziela and the island tour itself was a humbling experience. As were the other tour components an x prisoner/local is your guide. The whole day was wonderfully handled and a must do if looking for a day to fill. BRAVO to ML Sultan.

Highly recommend

We booked this tour through Viator as we thought it would educate us on the History of Cape Town, it's people and life in general in Cape Town. We were picked up from our Hotel and soon discovered that we were only going to be a party of 3! Our guide/driver (sincere apologies that I have forgotten his name) was extremely friendly and took a keen interest in where we were from and ensured that he introduced us to each other making for a great and comfortable atmosphere. He drove us round the local area before we headed off to the District Six Museum. Our guide gave us a brief overview of the Museum and then left us to explore ourselves. Despite the sombre and moving stories, pictures and memorabilia; it really was a fascinating place and gave true meaning to the terrible and heart wrenching events that went on. We could have spent hours going round the Museum however, after about 30-40 minutes we moved on. Our guide then took us to a Township (Langa) where he informed us that the next leg of our excursion would be led by a Township guide who had grown up there. Needless to say this was a real eye opener, seeing their ‘convenience’ store, their homes, Witch Doctor and even their pub was extremely enlightening and informative. We were really warmly welcomed by everyone we saw and shown how their environment had grown and improved throughout the years and their positivity and hope was in abundance. Never once did we feel unsafe or uncomfortable (the only time we felt awkward was when we were invited to “please take photographs” but we felt in some way slightly rude doing so – capturing pictures of their poverty didn’t seem right). Our initial Guide followed us around the streets in the vehicle but he was obscured from view (not wanting to intrude on our immersive experience) but still only a stones throw away. Upon leaving our Township guide; other than a tip, we wished our visit could have a bit more impact as in hindsight we would have liked to have left something in the Township – if we ever return, we will definitely contact the company (ML Sultan Travel & Tours) ahead of our visit to see if food/sweets/colouring pencils/books etc would be useful. We were then driven past a few more less up-and-coming Townships which were really hard to see as they were so poorly equipped and over-crowded and we didn’t stop there but our guide was able to inform us on the plans for the future and in the fact that there is still hope. We then headed back to the Victoria and Alfred Waterfront so we had time for refreshments before catching our 1pm ferry to Robben Island. Upon arriving our Guide introduced us to 'Faziela' who we had been liaising with online. She was an amazing character and one with whom we still speak fondly of now! Her unique personality and friendly demeanour was second to none and we wished we had been in her company for longer! She got us a drink and found us a sunny spot to sit in until it was time for us to leave on the ferry. I will review Robben Island separately however; all I will say in this review is allow plenty of time to go through security and time to queue for entry to the boat. Also, try to sit as close to the back as possible as we were sat in the middle going out to Robben Island and found it really hot and humid so on the way back, we sat at the rear and not only were we off the boat immediately but we also had a free-flowing breeze! We would highly recommend this excursion and the company themselves (ML Sultan Travel & Tours), from the moment we booked we received great communication from them and (as previously mentioned) Faziela who is a true asset to the company. They gave us such a professional and educational view of life in Cape Town and it fulfilled everything we could have wanted to learn as well as being inspired by the hope, positivity, determination and pride that the people in the Townships have.

Hi KMA, For a better review, no company could have asked. Indeed you should be a writer, such detail needless to say. We've also taken note of your suggesttions and we will definitely pass it on the great tips you've mentioned! eg, to sit more towards the back of the boat for some fresh air and the cool breeze as it is now getting into our summer season. Many thanks for that tip and also to try and find a window seat so you can see what sights the guide on the bus is showing out. You guys are sooooo amazing we are so grateful for your opinion, it will really assist the TirpAdvisor community. You should get an award for your writings! We wish you the very best in this world with health, happiness and lots of opportunities to travel so you can give your fabulous comments on the trips you get to do with lots of appreciation. Jameel.
