The well lit train ride was longer than expected (about 10 minutes) and was more engaging than any amusement park in ride. The path inside the cave was nicely paved with hills and bridges. Petra was our excellent tour guide!
Amazing experience. Petra was a really knowledgeable guide and very friendly. A comfortable bus took us from our cruise ship to the cave entrance where we given our tickets by Petra (guide). This is a 45 mins drive. The cave involves a 7-10 min train ride which is a highlight by itself. The train goes through a few very narrow tunnels then into large open areas giving a glimpse of what is to come. Then you get off the train and walk through the caves for app 1.5km with an audio device explaining what you are seeing. It is truly an impressive sight. Don’t walk too slow since you can lose track of time. We were given 2hr to self explore the caves and it was just enough time with 2 kids. The caves end at a souvenir store. There is a paid bathroom (€1) as well. Then you get back on the train to exit the caves. Take this into consideration when time planning. Once outside there are a many restaurants and souvenir shops and free bathrooms. There you will meet the guide for the 15mins bus ride to the castle stop. This involves a 10-15 mins opportunity to take some beautiful photos of the castle from a distance. Then back on the bus for a 45 mins drive back to the cruise port.
The cave was amazing! I have never seen anything like that before. Well worth the trip. The photostop at the castle was fun but I wish I found a tour you could go into the castle.
The trip was a great trip to spend a couple of hours since we were on limited time due to cruise. The caves were amazing and so beautiful. Be prepared and take sweater/jacket it’s cold. There is big crowd to go in but you walk at your pace. As far as castle wish we could have gone in. Knew we would take pics outside but no time inside. So would request for a tour that lets you go inside and look around. Our guide Rachel was very knowledgeable and funny. She gave us details of Slovenia. Would recommend it more if they included time in castle.
Postojna Is remarkable. Well worth the trip and price of admission. The Castle is fine, but you don’t really have much time to explore there. Tour guide and transport was excellent. Pro tip: bring a sweater cause it gets chilly in that cave.
The caves are the most amazing and beautiful natural site! Pictures can't do it justice. If you have this tour as an option, go for it! The castle was okay, we just spent 15 minutes there, and couldn't go inside, but it was a fine photo op. Be prepared for the 50 degrees Fahrenheit in the cave!
The train ride into the caves, as well as the cave tour was wonderful. Everything closes early. We had the last train ride in and everything was closed when we got out. I would advise you getting in at least at 4 o’clock. It was great fun to send a postcard from deep in the caves. Our tour guide was great.
Caves were awesome. Not much time at the castle. Overall a great tour, the tour guide on the bus tried to give some history and information on Koper.
So so cool! Really enjoyed this! Very organized, experienced tour guide, great driver too. Includes entrance to the caves. I wish we got to stay a bit longer at the castle to go inside, it was only 15 min stop.
Dress in layers. It is a out 50 degres Fahrenheit. So glad we went for our one day cruise port. The guide had a large bus and was standing next to a faded yellowish light orange flag near cyclone fence. The bus ride was nice...she gave facts about Slovenia. The caves are well run and if you have trouble walking they will let you remain on the open air train to go into the cave and back out. If you are in a wheel chair you could do it too...double check if they can when you onto the train. There are handrails throughout with no steps within the cave system. Smooth concrete pathways too. It is also well lit which they boast about with their audio guide. It comes in various languages. The tour first has about a fifteen minutes open air train ride. If you are really tall watch your head on the train ride. Then, there is about a 45minute walk with an audio guide. Ceilings are very high generally and well lit. It does have some humidity. Beautiful sights to see. Well worth seeing. Handrails throughout. Then it's back on the train for about 15 minutes to get back out. The bus and guide were ready when they said. There are obvious restrooms there too. These were the best caves we ever went into. I highly recommend seeing them. We also went to lake bled before....but if you had to choose one excursion the caves I recommend seeing first.
