Seeing the view from the top of Cairo Tower was like hitting baseball hard—just breathtaking! The panoramic view and the photos I took were absolutely fantastic. I also tasted the Koshary dish, and it was so delicious that I will definitely come back for a second visit. A huge thank you to Sam who was an absolutely brilliant guide.
The tour had numerous memorable moments, but two experiences stood out. First, the panoramic view from the top of Cairo Tower was breathtaking. It provided an authentic perspective of Cairo, sprawling beneath us, and allowed for unbelievable photo opportunities I will treasure forever. The second standout was the delicious Koshary meal we had. It was so good that it has already made it to my list of things to do on my next visit to Cairo.
Cairo, the pulsating heart of Egypt, is a treasure trove of ancient history and vibrant culture. I recently had the chance to experience a slice of this bustling metropolis and its offerings firsthand. Allow me to share with you the two facets of Cairo that made an indelible mark on my traveler's spirit: the iconic Cairo Tower and the delightful experience of eating Koshary. Cairo Tower – Reaching for the Skies Cairo tower or "Borg Al-Qāhirah," as the locals refer to it, is undeniably a modern symbol of Egypt's capital. Standing tall at 187 meters, it extends an open invitation to gaze upon the city from its vantage point. The architecture is impressive, with its lattice tube resembling a lotus plant, and is a testament to the Egyptian ingenuity blending the ancient with the contemporary. The View: The panoramic vista from the observation deck was absolutely breathtaking. The sprawling city stretched below me with infinite narratives in every direction. The Nile curved gracefully as the afternoon sun bathed everything in golden hues. One can spend hours spotting historic landmarks, and feeling the heartbeat of this city from the sky, truly embodies the essence of Cairo. The Experience: Ascending Cairo Tower was reminiscent of the city itself – a blend of chaos and beauty. The ride up the elevator was swift, and the bustling atmosphere at the observation deck added to the excitement. I found the best time to visit was just before sunset. Watching the city transition from day to night was a magical experience that can't be put into words. Koshary – A Culinary Revelation From the heights of Cairo Tower, I descended into the streets to indulge in a dish that is intrinsically Egyptian. Koshary, a comfort dish, is the epitome of street food that captures the spirit of Cairo. The Dish: Koshary is a harmonious mix of carbohydrates and textures. Lentils, rice, pasta, and chickpeas are the hearty base, topped with crispy fried onions and drowned in a zesty tomato sauce with a dash of garlic vinegar that provides an explosion of flavors. It's a staple that's both filling and affordable, providing fuel for the day-to-day Egyptian. The Experience: The experience of eating Koshary in a crowded local joint added an authentic touch. The cacophony of the cooks preparing dish after dish and the lively chatter of the diners created an ambiance full of energy. Each bite of Koshary was a delightful blend of different flavors and textures, making it instantly clear why this dish is so beloved in Cairo. It was not just a meal; it was a culinary adventure. Conclusion To the traveler seeking experiences that touch the soul, Cairo offers these in abundance. The Cairo Tower's enchanting views coupled with the bustling area surrounding it and the sheer delight of tucking into a plate of Koshary in an energetic local spot are experiences I recommend to anyone visiting Cairo. These two icons, one towering above the city and the other nestled within the labyrinth of its streets, are testimonials to the city's ability to offer nourishment for the eyes and the stomach alike.
