Villa Adriana, la plus belle villa impériale, conçue et construite par l'empereur Hadrien qui n'aimait pas le palais palatin à Rome, ainsi pendant les dernières années de son règne, il a régné sur l'empire depuis Tivoli. Vraiment aucun empereur n'appréciait autant le palais créé par ses prédécesseurs, mais Hadrien détestait l'entassement, la promiscuité, l'intrigue et le chaos de Rome, où il résidait le moins possible, voyageant le plus possible.
Villa d'Este est l'un des exemples les plus remarquables et raffinés de la culture de la Renaissance. Par son projet novateur et la créativité des composantes architecturales du parc (fontaines, bassins ornementaux, etc.), il représente un exemple unique de jardin Italien du XVIe siècle. Villa d'Este, l'un des premiers jardins de merveilles, a servi de modèle et a eu une influence décisive sur le développement des jardins en Europe. Le complexe, composé du palais et du jardin, a été construit par Pirro Logorio pour le compte du cardinal ferrarien Ippolito II d'Este qui, devenu gouverneur de la ville du Latium en 1550, voulait une résidence adaptée à son nouveau statut. la structure forme un quadrilatère irrégulier et couvre une superficie d'environ 4,5 hectares. Le plan de la villa est irrégulier car l'architecte a été contraint d'utiliser certaines parties du bâtiment monastique préexistant.

Car pick up and return to hotel was good. Driver spoke very little English. He offered no information, unless asked. Just dropped us off, at each site, handed us a map. We were on our own, guideless. In fact got lost at Adrian’s villa. Nice sites to visit . Nice to see a tivoli countryside. Nice getaway from Rome. The getyourguide tour was just a hired car to pick us up, drop at sites and return to hotel. No guide at all. Not what I expected.

Great historical perspective on Ancient Rome. Architecture design and structure is impressive. The fountains are spectacular. Archaeological recovery work is amazing. Take something to drink during the tour

This private tour was definitely worth the extra cost. Both our driver and our guide were courteous and professional. We were picked up on time (and very much appreciated being met at our hotel). We had plenty of time to enjoy both sites without feeling rushed. Our guide was very knowledgable and answered all our questions. We especially liked the tour of Hadrian’s villa, as that site was truly exceptional from an historical perspective. The tour does not include a lunch stop, so be sure to have breakfast that morning! We did stop for something to drink, but there was no time to have a snack. (We were aware of this, so we are not complaining. It is simply something to note.)

Hadrian’s Villa is amazing, we learned so much and it was so special to be there before it opened. Our amazement continued with a gorgeous visit to Villa d”Este.
