Modiano est l'un des marchés les plus traditionnels de Thessalonique. Il est situé au cœur de la ville et fait partie de la vie des Thessaloniciens depuis environ 80 ans. Sa construction a commencé en 1922 et s'est achevée en 1930 par l'architecte Eli Modiano. Issu d'une famille juive (séfarade) renommée de Thessalonique, Eli était le fils du banquier Jacob (Yako) Modiano. Il a étudié l'architecture à Paris, en France, et est retourné à Thessalonique où il a créé certains des bâtiments les plus importants de la ville, dont le marché de Modiano.
Pleine de vie, tout au long de la journée, la place Athonos, au centre de la ville, est un lieu apprécié des Thessaloniciens et des touristes. Ici, l'alimentation et la nutrition jouent le rôle principal. Vous y trouverez des épices, tous les types de thé, des noix, des légumes et des fruits, du poisson, des produits d'épicerie fine, ainsi que de petites boutiques de vêtements, d'accessoires faits à la main et d'articles de décoration. De plus, votre attention sera instantanément attirée par les odeurs des délicieux plats des tavernes traditionnelles de la place ! Vous pouvez les déguster à midi et en soirée, accompagnés occasionnellement de musique grecque en direct. De plus, si vous souhaitez vous familiariser avec le côté traditionnel de la place Athonos, visitez les petites boutiques pittoresques vendant de la vannerie artisanale et de petits meubles en bois, fabriqués par les derniers artisans qualifiés.
Louloudadika est une petite zone du centre-ville historique comprenant les rues de Komninon, Frangon et Vas. Herakliou, qui tire son nom des anciens fleuristes en plein air qui étaient là. Malheureusement, seulement 4 continuent de fonctionner aujourd'hui. Dans les années 50, il y avait 11 magasins vendant toutes sortes de fleurs et leur renommée a atteint les villes de province.

Had an amazing tour led by guide Nikos. Immediately felt comfortable touring the city and learned so much about the food, history and culture! Come hungry. Like very hungry. I was so full by the end 🤣 nikos went above and beyond showing me the metro system and the history behind it!
A great combination of the flavors and tastes of Thessaloniki while learning about the historical context of the food and region. Our tour guide was friendly, accommodating, and very knowledgeable! We had a fantastic walking food tour of Thessaloniki ! Nikos was a very interesting, informative & funny host. We learned a lot about the history of the city & its food. The tour was at a gentle pace & the many food samples were delicious & very filing ! The highlight was the visit to the markets. We would highly recommend this tour !

The tour was very good with lots of information and conversation. The two hours was just about right and the distance not to long on what was a hot day. We’ll be going back to many of the places we visited.

Nico was an amazing guide. This tour included plenty of local foods as well as a great history of the area and tour of the city. It felt like spending the afternoon with a friend. Would highly recommend this tour.

We had a really great, varied and delicious food tour. We also learned about backgrounds of Thessaloniki and the tour guide was very nice and pleasant.
Our guide Niksos really did his homework checking to make sure he took us to all fresh, handmade bakeries and restaurants and every dish we sampled was top notch! Fresh filo dough rolled by hand for the spanikopita, the bougata was so yummy and every other sweet treat was amazing. Greek coffee was very interesting - not sure if I’ll will give up my morning Nespresso for it but enjoyed it just the same. Very enjoyable tour - highly recommend.
