Dans cette excursion d'une journée, nous visiterons les temples les plus significatifs de Calcutta. L'expérience couvre Belur Math, le siège mondial de Ramakrishna Mission, le temple Dakshineshwar Kali fondé par le rêve de Rani Rashmoni, le temple Jain dédié à Pareshnath le 23 Tirthankara, et le temple Kali emblématique de Kalighat situé à côté d'un affluent du fleuve Hooghly.

7h30 du matin - prise en charge à l'hôtel Notre première destination est Belur Math, le siège mondial de la mission Ramakrishna. Cette demeure de spiritualité est un excellent endroit pour commencer le sentier des temples à Kolkata. Construit en 1938, conformément aux principes de Sri Ramakrishna concernant l’universalité des religions, Belur Math reprend les motifs architecturaux d’un temple hindou, d’un chaitya bouddhiste, d’une église chrétienne et d’une mosquée islamique. Nous visiterons le temple Sri Ramakrishna, le vieux sanctuaire, le temple Swami Brahmananda, le temple de la Sainte Mère, le temple Swami Vivekananda, l'enceinte Samadhi, Old Math et le musée Ramakrishna.
9h30 du matin - temple Dakshineswar Kali Nous nous dirigeons vers le célèbre temple Dakshineswar qui abrite la déesse Kali. Il a été fondé par Rani Rashmoni à la suite d'un rêve qu'elle avait alors commencé à entreprendre pour son pèlerinage à Benaras. Nous visiterons le temple de Kali à neuf branches situé au centre de la cour principale. L'idole de Kali est une figure de basalte et semble fascinante avec son revêtement de brocart d'or. Notre guide vous racontera comment ce lieu a joué un rôle important dans l’indépendance de l’Inde.
11h - Temple Jain de Pareshnath Nous visitons ensuite un temple célèbre dédié à la foi Jain. Les marchands jaïns suivirent la Compagnie des Indes orientales jusqu'à Kolkata. Ils forment une partie importante de la société actuelle à Kolkata. Ce temple est dédié à Pareshnath, le 23e Jain Tirthankar. Depuis la consécration du temple en 1867, une lampe a été allumée dans le sanctuaire sanctorum depuis!
12h30 - Temple Kalighat Kali Le temple de Kali à Kalighat est l’un des temples les plus populaires de Kolkata. Les pèlerins se pressent ici pour prier la déesse. A l'origine une petite cabane, ce temple a été construit par le roi Manasingha au début du 16ème siècle. La structure actuelle du temple a été construite par la famille Sabarna Roy Chowdhury en 1809. Notre guide vous racontera l'histoire de la danse cosmique mortelle du Seigneur Shiva où les orteils du pied droit de son épouse Sati sont tombés dans les locaux du temple. 14h - déjeuner 16h - Retour à l'hôtel

Anirban was fantastic, funny and knowledgeable about the beautiful temples we saw. Highly recommended, and complimentary for those that have already done a general guided tour of Kolkata.
It is a good idea to pick this trip to visit the Kali temples which may be difficult without explanations and guidance for a single tourist.
On the plus side the guide was extremely efficient we were done by noon and saw all 4 temples so that was great but we often felt rushed and didn't get too linger/enjoy/take pictures very much. Guide was unaware lunch was included that was straightened out and he took us somewhere really good but there was a 400 rupee per person limit so be sure you have rupees with you to cover the additional charges. Also they do not have water in the vehicle, a first for me on a Viator trip, so you will need small denominations to buy water. The tour was close to $500 for the 3 of us. We thought it was expensive for what you got. But we did see the temples and the driver and guide are nice. So all and all it was OK.
The guide and the driver were very knowledgeable, personable, and communicated relevant information very well. Navigating the Kolkata traffic during office hours was challenging, and we had to take alternative routes. Despite all these issues, the temple visits were satisfying and peaceful. The guide provided a lot of background information and history. His knowledge was appreciated. Thank you very much!

Our guide Anirban was great. We travelled around the city seeing several sites. The various sites were all very interesting and Anirban added additional context and connections so we came away with a greater understanding of how the religions of the area relate to the history and development in the region. Recommend! Even in monsoon!!
Great overview of different temples located at different areas of Kolkata allowing the visitor to see different neighbourhoods and obtain some commentary on them. Equally interesting are the choices of the temples which differ in religion, style and atmosphere. Guide was friendly and spoke clearly.
My guide Anirban was very knowledgeable. Despite the really hot and humid weather, the tour was really good. It was nice to see a variety of temples and other parts of Kolkata on the drive between them.
