A rushed visit
A little disappointed by our guided tour of the city.
The guide was very nice but didn't give us much information, except before starting the tour: that's when we got interesting explanations about the history of the city and the island. After that, we received little information. It's a shame. The visit was very quick.

Stone Town Walking Tour
Nouman was great! He shared the history of Stone Town and gave us good insights on current and past issues. He answered all of our questions with clarity and knowledge. At the market, he brought us to a trusted source to buy spices from which was wonderful. Additionally, he even brought us to a restaurant at the end that was a favorite. You can’t go wrong booking with him!

Disappointing experience
We spent two nights in Stone Town after a beach stay on the East Coast and had read that a walking tour was a must-do to appreciate the history and culture of the area. After reading glowing reviews, we decided to book with Nouman and were looking forward to the experience.
Unfortunately, things got off to a rough start. We were told to meet at 9:00 AM and arrived promptly, but Nouman showed up 10–15 minutes late. While he mentioned later that he had bike trouble, we had sent texts to check in and received no response — a simple message would have gone a long way in setting expectations and starting things off on a better note.
Throughout the tour, Nouman frequently took phone calls, which made us feel like we weren't a priority. He would share a brief bit of information and then return to his phone, making it difficult to stay engaged or feel like we were having a personalized experience. Admittedly, we may not have been the most enthusiastic group, but it’s hard to be when you feel like an afterthought.
At $50 USD, we expected more value — both in terms of professionalism and depth of information. In hindsight, exploring on our own with a guidebook or online resources might have been more enjoyable and cost-effective.

Safe for a solo traveller
I was the only person on the tour, it was a last minute booking and I really enjoyed it.
Nouman was interesting, informative and very friendly. I felt totally safe walking around with him. The sights and smells at the fish market were amazing and the former slave market was overwhelmingly sad.

Not very motivated
Let's just say it was very hot that day... Not the most engaging or enthusiastic guided tour we have experienced.
On the positive side, we worked with Nouman for making arrangements for transfers throughout the rest of our stay on Zanzibar, and that part worked out very well.

Informative Tour
We definitely would have needed a tour guide to help us to navigate the confusing streets of Stone Town. We met our tour guide at the Cape Town Fish Market Restaurant , so it was easy to find him. Our tour guide was nice and really mellow and he allowed us to go at our own pace. During our 2 1/2 hour tour we went by the market, several stores, the slave dungeon and memorial, the church, the old fort, and the Freddie Mercury Museum. The tour was interesting and informative. I recommend signing up for this tour.
