Mussawir was a fantastic guide! He met us at our Stonetown hotel and then we spent a couple of hours going through Stonetown and the Darajani souk tasting local foods. He provided the history and cultural significance about most of the foods and drinks we tried. Everything was delicious and he was an enjoyable host. Would definitely recommend!
This tour was an excellent introduction to the Zanzibar food culture! Mussawir was an excellent guide for the tour, we had a wonderful time! Mussawirs knowledge and passion for his towns cuisine was very evident. If you are planning to spend time in Stone Town we highly recommend this tour. You will not be disappointed with Mussawir and his food selections for the tour!
One of the best tours we had! Musawir was both knowledgeable and funny and his frankness about the food, culture and the people was what made the tour very interesting. It was like walking around town with a friend and I was grateful to have spent the 3 hours with him today and being introduced to all the best food spots, all of which where delicious with my favorite being the chipati and zanzibar mix soup.
Hamdu, gave us a food tour experience of a lifetime in Stone Town. Being picked up from the hotel, brief talk abt Zanzibars history and then into the narrow lanes of Stone Town where we tasted all and everything we saw and smelled on the way. Hamdu`s knowledge of foods, preparations and spices was great and he made sure we had enough water and were comfortable the whole way. Make sure NOT to have breakfast on the day and no need for lunch plans either. The variety of foods and beverages consumed were very fulfilling in every sense. A must for any Food Lover.
The best and most unique way to explore Zanzibar Stone Town. Also, such a good value for money - so much food- make sure not to have breakfast or dinner the night before - Great value for money!
Haj was AMAZING! He was early at the meeting spot, which was clear and easy to find. For the tour, Haj took us all throughout Stone Town, gave us a Zanzibar history lesson, and took us to some off the beaten path food vendors. We got to explore the traditional food & spice market, and got to have street food that there was no way western tourists (like us) would find on our own. 10/10 recommend this tour!
The food was superb, the guide was incredibly knowledgeable, the foods we sampled we would not have done otherwise, it was thoroughly enjoyable.
As I understand it, this company uses contractors for their tour guides. So, I am rating Musawir, as he was amazing. If you book this tour and he is not your guide, you are missing out! Musawir is friendly, knowledgeable and very caring. He's passionate about 3 things, children, cats and tourists, who all need taking care of! I explained early on that I was interested in tasting local foods, but have a small appetite. He was very accommodating, making sure I got to taste many things, but that nothing went to waste (we're both passionate about not wasting). And he knows his local street food vendors. He took me to his favorite chapati maker, and it was the best chapati I have ever had, incredible. Took me to a happening Zanzibar mix place, ate a few dishes at a small (2 table) restaurant. We also had a lovely sugar cane juice with lime. Toward the end of the tour he asked me if I wanted a cup of coffee, and I couldn't, I was just too full. Aha, he says, I have just the thing, and got me a cup of ginger tea. Wow, it was perfect. He also took me to a local spice shop, not the ones where they overcharge tourists, but the local shop, where all the local Mamas buy their spices. I got all my spices to bring home for half what I would have paid in the markets. All in all a great tour, thanks to Musawir!!
This was a great tour with Mussawir! He gave a great tour of Stone Town cuisine and culture. He was super knowledgeable, friendly and fun. Highly recommend this tour!
This was a great tour. Musawir is authentic and easy to talk to. He's picky about the places he shows you, and he's also quite knowledgeable about the history and techniques behind the food. We went places I would have never been able to find myself, where we tried foods I'd never have known to order.
Thank you for taking the time to review our tour! We are so pleased to hear that you enjoyed your tour and your experience with Mussawir.
