Great tour! Started the morning visiting a couple of sites in Johannesburg including Johannesburg theatre and Nelson Mandela’s last home. From there, I spent about 3 hrs at the Apartheid Museum. So much to see and learn here- you could spend a whole day here. From there, we headed to Soweto and visited Nelson Mandela’s Soweto home on Vilakazi St. Desmond Tutu’s home is also located here. From there, we went by the Hector Peterson memorial and a few other areas of Soweto. Christine, my tour guide was very gracious and knowledgeable about the sites and the history. This tour was a great introduction to Johannesburg and Soweto!
I had the most amazing experience with Santacruise Tours. Foremost, Tingo was extremely professional and coordinated my tour time and pickup from the airport. He was very diligent with communication which made everything go smoothly. Once my tour guide, Imbokodo, arrived I knew it was going to be great. She was so pleasant and down to earth with high spirits. Of course, we visited the many tourist spots such as the Apartheid Museum, Mandela's House (now museum) in Soweto, Mandela's estate in Houghton, Vilakazi Street where both Mandela and Desmond Tutu lived which is now a rich and lively homage to them and Constitutional Hill. Also, we visited downtown Johannesburg and perused through the various street markets as well as the local colleges. What I loved most about this tour was Imbokodo took me into some of the neighborhoods to talk to some of the locals. We also visited businesses and just engaged like a regular day. This gave me the vibe of the city and allowed me to better appreciate the area and people which is beautiful and complex. I didn't feel like I was taking but that I was experiencing the culture and the people. My only regret is I couldn't stay longer because Santacruise Tours offers so many more attractions that I was unable to take advantage of like walking with the lions and some nightlife experiences. Santacruise Tours does it all and offers top tier concierge service. This was not just a tour, it was an experience. Many thanks Santacruise Tours!
