Découvrez un morceau d'histoire de la Rome antique à travers la visite des deuxièmes plus grands bains publics de Rome, avec une philosophie de vie spécifique, qui a inspiré les gens à travers les siècles. Le but précis était de donner satisfaction aux citoyens romains, afin de les distraire, et cette intention a été pleinement réalisée. À Rome, ces complexes thermaux sont devenus en fait des lieux incomparables de socialisation et de loisirs, où il y avait un grand mouvement de citoyens de toutes les couches sociales, hommes et femmes (pour lesquels, cependant, des temps et des espaces séparés étaient prévus). Le lieu de construction pour la baignade et les soins corporels, mais aussi un lieu de détente, de sport et d'étude. Le bloc central est constitué du caldarium, espace destiné aux bains chauds et à la vapeur, puis du tepidarium, milieu de transition de la température modérément chaude, le frigidarium, pour les bains revigorants en eau froide.

This was fascinating. We loved our tour guide, Ricardo. It turned out that no one else signed up, so we had a private tour. He was so knowledgeable about history, and my husband and he had great conversation about all sorts of history. Fascinating to see a slice of ancient Roman life.

Ricardo was truly one of the best guides we’ve ever had anywhere. He is intensely intelligent, but easy going; knowledgeable, polite but friendly- the exact kind of person you want to spend the morning talking with. He is well credentialed- history degree and a master’s. We booked a small group but ended up with a private tour, a real plus. Caracalla Baths is slightly outside the main old Roman center, but well worth the trip and the tour. It was a spectacularly gorgeous day weather-wise, and the tour was extremely interesting. Riccardo is so personable, he made it superb. We can’t recommend his tour highly enough - take it if you can. It’s an attraction of Rome that most tourists miss - most of the people there today were locals. It was well worth our time.
