great way to see the rainforest and learn about local history. See the forest and town by rail and then we took the skyway down through the rain forest seeing from above and learning about rain forest ecosystem, plants and animals. Stopped at the water fall which was massive due to rain and run off over the dam at the top of the river
Stuck at the top where you have to shop, dine or go to zoos. The chair lift is beautiful but I would take that back down ( and not wait for the train 5 hours later), giving yourself only 1 hour to shop or eat st the top.
Dear Leslie_M, Thank you for sharing your experience. The time our guests like / would like to spend in Kuranda varies a lot - either too long for some or too short for others. Everyone has different interest and if you want to visit the attractions there, walk through the market and have some lunch, 1 hour is definitely not long enough. But, coming from Port Douglas, we unfortunately have only 1 timing each for train/skyrail or skyrail/train due to the distance to travel from Cairns to Port Douglas. Despite this, I hope you had a great time in our beautiful region. Kind regards Nicolas Vernerey Operations Manager
Cable car and train were great. Would recommend upgrading to Gold Class on the train. Minibus on time but the seats and air con had seen better days
Great day out with the kids, we loved the ease of the tour and the diverse range of things to see and do. special mention to ranger tim! His knowledge and explanation was the best
A beautiful experience to Karanda on the cable car, stunning scenery. The days instructions on the itinerary states about 1.5 hrs in Karanda which would of been plenty but actually it was 4 hours in Karanda which was far too long. The train journey should of been at the most 2 hours after the cable car, not 4 hours . The train was also a lovely experience but the long time in Karanda which was not stated made it nearly a 12 hour day. Far to long. Especially for young children. Thank you to both coach drivers who were very friendly and knowledgeable.
This was a great way to see the vast beauty of the rainforest from the trainline that cuts through the mountainside and along the River and waterfalls and ends in the beautiful Kuranda. You'll then have about 4 hours to eat and shop and meet the lovely locals before hopping on the skyrail to enjoy the view from above. I definitely recommend allowing time to hop off at both stops before getting back to base as you will be able to see the massive waterfall up close and catch the refreshing mist it creates as well as a guided tour at the next stop. It's a big day (we got picked up at 8am and we didn't get back to the hotel until just after 6pm) so definitely hydrate, get refreshments at the station before boarding and have a good night's sleep beforehand and make sure you take a had and/or sunscreen.
Dear Lucia_H, Thank you for taking the time to share your experience. Your satisfaction is very important to us. Kind Regards Queena Guest experience consultant
The experience was ok. It was extremely hot and later in the afternoon there was a bi tropical storm. The skyrail was great, Down Under Tour's were great but the Kuranda railway was a disappointment. We understand the storm that started before boarding isn't their fault but the waiting left hundreds of passengers drowned as we weren't allowed to board until 30m even though it started raining. There wasn't enough shelter. When we boarded there was rain, thunder and lightning. After an hour and a half of waiting on the train while very wet the train was cancelled. This was due to trees on the line. That's not their fault but the way it was all dealt with was very poor. All passengers had to leave the station to go wait for buses in the rain.
Dear Karen_S, The weather definitely impacted your day in ways that weren’t ideal, and I can understand how frustrating that must have been, especially after waiting for so long in the rain. It’s great to hear that your trip with Skyrail and your time with us went well, but the lack of shelter at the train station is disappointing especially during a storm event. I hope you enjoyed the rest of your time in Cairns. Kind Regards Nicolas Vernerey Operations Manager
We were picked up first for the day and didn’t realize it would be almost two hours with all the other pickups to make it to the Skyrail station. However, the bus was very comfortable and the driver was polite and gave good information about sights along the way and things to do in Kuranda. We thoroughly enjoyed the ride on the Skyrail and loved our time in Kuranda Village visiting the Koala Garden and Butterfly Garden. The markets are apparently closed on Monday and Tuesday so we missed out on that. We took the Scenic Railway back down and while the ride was nice, there wasn’t a lot of “scenic” locations along the way as there is a lot of brush and trees along the route. Our bus was waiting for us at Freshwater train station and then we had alot of drop offs before ours being the last. The day was 11 hours in total. Logistics were great and not having to worry about getting tickets and transport to Kuranda was nice but be prepared for a very long day.
Dear 848kimg, Thank you for your detailed review and looks like you still had an enjoyable time overall, despite the longer day. I'm glad to hear you enjoyed the Skyrail ride and had a great time in Kuranda Village, especially visiting the Koala Garden and Butterfly Garden. I'm also happy to hear that the coach ride was comfortable, and our driver guide provided useful information along the way. Thank you Kind Regards Nicolas Vernerey Operations Manager
Enjoyable experience made better by the audio commentary. Take the time to use the QR code on entry and download the app. It’s makes the experience so much better when given an understanding of what you are looking at. Absolutely loved the cassowary that you can have fun with on the app. Helpful happy staff. Highly recommend
Hi Pam, thanks for the review.
This was so much fun especially since we didn’t know what to expect. First time experiencing a rainforest and viewing such a magnificent waterfall so close up!
Thank you for the lovely review and it's great to hear you enjoyed your day.
