My wife and I travelled from Ireland to Sydney and then to cairns, the skyrail and kurunda railway were booked by Viator and we had an excellent experience
When booking the tour it stated that is starts at 10 however when we finalised the booking, we weren’t being picked up until 11:55am which we thought was odd since the last train to depart from Kuranda was at 3:30pm sharp. We called to ask and was told the 11:55am pick up was correct. When the time came for pick up, the bus arrived but told us it wasn’t for us. We waited 15 mins before called the tour company and was told the bus is coming. When the bus showed up, it was the same bus. We had to change buses midway which caused further delays. We were meant to reach Kuranda at 12:45pm which would allow us to explore the town for 2hrs 45 mins before the train, however we didn’t arrive until 1:45 which didn’t leave us much time to explore and wonder the town. Overall, you’re better off Ubering up to Kuranda and taking the train back to Carins Central Station rather than booking with Down Under Tours.
Skyrail was wonderful! No notice for us to get a canceled schedule from Cable way to just coach. No any refund money too.
Great friendly staff and made sure all of had a great time
On time. Informative. SkyWay is boring...train ride is worth the cost. Interesting choice of activities at the top. The butterfly enclosure is great.
Wonderful trip up on the Skyrail. Enjoyed the guided talk at the first stop, and the incredible views above the rainforest and the Barron Falls. It was great to have time to explore Kuranda, enjoy a pie and take the walks around before jumping on the train back to Cairns.
This is definitely a great experience, however I was extremely disappointed that as a solo traveler I was forced to share a gondola even though they weren’t busy. They have signs saying in busy times they will ask you to share. They were not busy! The poor couple were trying to wave me out of entering, so embarrassing. Then in the ride they practically sat on top of me taking selfies, while she flicked her hair in my face and I watched completely empty gondolas go by. I paid the same as everyone else but no comfort because I’m one. No souvenir picture for me because who wants a photo of a stranger next to you for $20? I was only lined up for 5 minutes so definitely not busy and when I asked the skyrail attendant, he rudely said to me “They’ll be busy at the next stop too, so you’ll be sharing”. They weren’t and I didn’t have to share through the 2nd stop. Thankfully at the third change over, at least they made an effort to put me with another solo traveler. Absolutely ridiculous when empty gondolas were travelling. Solo discrimination as the guy literally said to me, “All solo travellers share”even though the sign clearly states only when busy. Confused, as this makes them no extra money at all. I felt totally disrespected. Do not miss this experience, I leave this review in the hope the company does better and you aren’t forced to share your experience in times of quiet traffic.
You can do the route two ways; either works. I took the skyrail up and the train back. I think it is better to try both things than to do one up and down. The train heading down was excellent fun, great views. The skyrail up was also full of great views (and clouds). I suggest you stop and take the walks on the way up.
It’s well worth the trip. Beautiful waterfalls and sites. Good markets at the village. The butterflies and animal exhibits were fun to see.
A wonderful trip through the rainforest, seen from above and from within. Time for lunch, hiking, and admiring the scenery. Good organization and very friendly and helpful staff. The village of Kuranda itself was a bit disappointing. Apart from the usual shops, the heritage area was practically deserted.
