Superb, very modern museum, located right across from the arenas of Nîmes. Many pieces are prominently featured in specialized books on Roman civilization. The latest archaeological finds are displayed in an enjoyable and educational manner. The welcome for children has also been well thought out, which is a significant point. Noteworthy is an exceptional collection of models of monuments (see my photos). As well as a superb collection of Roman coins, including Aureus, silver Denarii, bronze Sesterces, not to mention the famous Dupondius from Nîmes, with their stylized crocodile. This will fascinate both young and old, numismatists and the curious. All the pieces are in exceptional condition, and there are even some very rare pieces, such as the denarius of Brutus celebrating the Ides of March in -44 (the assassination of Julius Caesar). The visit can be completed on the top floor with the panoramic view, not to forget La Table du 2 (gourmet bistro).
Museum super and very complete in terms of pieces and information! Nice staff and museum very well located!
A great Roman museum. Definitely one of the best, and best preserved. Mosaic , incredible and practically complete sculptures and works. A very well marked tour, the area of the coins separated by eras with the sliding magnifying glass to observe the details. Very well explained and very intuitive. the building is also a great work of architecture and very original. If you like blunt history, you could spend the day here.
The booking seemed to be fine until the museum would accept the QR code. I had to buy another ticket.
A modern building adjacent to the bullring: take the plunge... Super immersion in Nemausus from the 10th century BC until the Middle Ages... A route rich in projections, interactive maps, reconstructions without forgetting the 5000 pieces presented (statues, mosaics, models, various everyday objects...). The tour is arrowed, so easy to follow, you can request an audio guide, and don't forget to go on the roof to enjoy a 360° view of the city of Nimes... Super realization...
Very interesting museum Very detailed and interesting exhibition Very clean The top the rooftop the terrace on the 2nd which allows a breathtaking view of Nîmes the magnificent arenas. Adorable and informative staff
Museum very complete and really well thought out. A large space to discover the treasures that the Roman era left us! The museum is totally wheelchair accessible, the toilets too, the shop, in short everything was at the top! The staff is very kind and kind, a not insignificant plus!
Located opposite the amphitheatre this museum is very interesting. We learn a lot about the Romans and the history of Nîmes all with beautiful archaeological pieces (statues, mosaics etc...) Embellished with various digital and multimedia media, this museum is even more enjoyable for young children. To do without hesitation.
Originally from the Paris region, I had the chance to discover the Louvre quite early... so what a nice surprise to find some of its collections at the Musée de la Romanité in Nîmes thanks to their collaborations! It is a superb initiative that makes the connection between local heritage and great history. The museum itself is very well thought out, mixing ancient remains, Nimese works and various temporary exhibitions. I can’t wait to come back and discover their new exhibition “Gallic but Roman”, which started in May. The guides are excellent, pedagogical and available, and the audio guides are very recent and are very well made. A rewarding visit that I highly recommend, both for enthusiasts and curious!
Beautiful museum.A beautiful collection to visit. Beautiful works to discover. I recommend this place. Beautiful mosaics
