Passez une merveilleuse journée à Alexandrie, surnommée par les locaux «la perle de la mer Méditerranée», fondée en 332 av. J.-C. par Alexandre Le Grand, qui porte son nom. Alexandrie est la deuxième plus grande ville et le plus grand port maritime d'Egypte. Son entrée du port était autrefois marquée par l’une des sept merveilles du monde antique, le phare dominant. L’immense contenu de son ancienne bibliothèque a été malheureusement incendié, mais la mer de la ville ancienne cache encore certains de ses trésors. En fait, la ville de Cléopâtre et le tombeau d’Alexandre le Grand n’ont toujours pas été découverts. Au cours de votre aventure, vous apprécierez les récits de votre visite sur certains sites des pages d’histoire, notamment le site de la bibliothèque d’Alexandrie «Bibliotheca Alexandrina», les catacombes de Kom El Shoqafa, la citadelle de Qaitbay et le pilier de Pompay.

À votre arrivée à Alexandrie, votre voyage débutera par une visite du pilier de Pompay, qui a été érigé en l'honneur de l'empereur Dioclétien au 3ème siècle. Le pilier faisait partie du temple de Sérapis, célèbre pour avoir la bibliothèque fille d'Alexandrie.
Notre prochaine étape est de visiter les célèbres vieilles catacombes romaines de Kom Ashoqafa, considérées comme l’une des sept merveilles médiévales du monde et le plus grand lieu de sépulture romain connu en Égypte. Les catacombes sont découpées dans un rocher en forme de puits circulaire comprenant trois niveaux avec un escalier en colimaçon d’une profondeur d’environ 35 m, avec des caractéristiques uniques à celles des autres catacombes du monde antique. Vous ferez l'expérience d'une combinaison entre l'ancien art égyptien et l'ancien art romain.
Après cela, profitez de votre temps à la bibliothèque d’Alexandrie «Bibliotheca Alexandrina». La bibliothèque moderne a été conçue par un architecte norvégien pour un coût total de 220 millions de dollars. Elle a été ouverte au public en 2002. Elle se présente sous la forme d’un soleil levant et doit accueillir 8 millions de livres dans son vaste espace.
Notre voyage se terminera par la découverte du Qaitbey Fort, l'ancien site du légendaire ancien phare d'Alexandrie. La citadelle a été construite pour protéger l'Egypte de l'avancée de l'empire ottoman. Du haut de la citadelle, vous ferez l'expérience d'une vue imprenable sur la mer avec un premier plan de petits bateaux de pêche et, au loin, le disque solaire de la nouvelle bibliothèque.

I booked Mr Ahmed Nour El Din earlier for Pyramid tour and I was so amused by his knowledge, nature or charm etc. that I booked him again for this tour as well. Since I was very much comfortable with him earlier, it felt like a friend is guiding me to places and want to convey as much information he could. The Catacomb was so enormous cemetery and my tour guide explained very well that how the system in old times used to work. The Roman Amphitheatre again was phenomenal. It would have been useless to not hire a tour guide. And a guy like Ahmed, I totally envy his knowledge. We had a great lunch together. And lastly was the Alexandria Library. That was one of the top-notch libraries I have ever seen in my life. I recommend this tour for sure to anyone. And the Tour Guide? Well why would you not like to go with a PhD graduate?! :D

I really enjoyed my tour of Alexandria, and my tour guide Mohamed Assure was very accommodating, and knowledgeable about the sites. It is a long drive, and absolutely not a criticism of the tour or the guide; but the policy at the catacombs is no cameras, although you can take your phone and take photos all day. Obviously an outdated policy on the part of the site, that should be updated.
